Veronica's POV
Leonardo's voice crackled through the phone as he shared the intel he'd dug up, and my face contorted with shock and rage.
"It was him?!"
Never in my wildest nightmares would I have suspected Alonzo was behind the hit-and-run!
He'd been nursing his grudge all this time, biding his time for the perfect revenge.
And now he'd actually paid some maniac to plow into me with a car?
Was he completely unhinged?!
"Don't move. I'm on my way!"
After telling Rosalind to stay put at the hospital, I got ready to leave with the three kids. My plan was to drop them at the Nelson estate first, then meet up with Leonardo.
Right before heading out, a sharp whistle cut through the air.
The piercing sound made me whip around toward Brad, who'd just blown it.
"Brad, no whistles in the hospital. You need to keep it down."
"Oops, sorry Mommy!"
My eyes landed on the brass whistle in my son's grip, and curiosity sparked. "Where'd you get that? Let me take a look."
