"The gorgeous girl everyone's been obsessing over? She's actually my sister," Patty finally blurted out, her patience snapping after watching the eighth guy strike out trying to get Phoebe's number.
She kept her voice quiet, but it carried just far enough for nearby students to overhear.
Barbara's hand flew to her mouth, eyes going wide. "Hold up—she's the one you mentioned before? The sister who needed your dad to donate five whole buildings just to scrape her way into Clearwater?"
"What's going on?" The whispered conversation between Patty and Barbara had sparked curiosity among the surrounding crowd, with several students edging closer, desperate for gossip.
Barbara shot Patty a questioning look. "Is it cool if I share this?"
Patty chewed her bottom lip, her expression a masterful blend of discomfort and hesitation. "Barbara, please don't. Dad worked so hard to get Phoebe accepted here. She'd be devastated if this got out."
Those few sentences packed a serious punch.
