Phoebe's POV
The sign-up sheet stared back at me, and one section practically screamed for attention - the women's distance run. Empty lines stretched down the page like a void nobody wanted to fill.
Being the last to arrive meant scraps. All the cushy events were already claimed by the time I made it there.
Lyanna thrust the clipboard toward me, and that barren distance run section seemed to mock me, as if fate had already sealed my participation.
I studied the blank spaces, thinking bitterly, 'Is there really any choice here? They've basically cornered me into this.'
Lyanna watched me stare at the form without moving, probably assuming I'd bail. She switched on her most pathetic expression and pleaded, "Phoebe, what about the women's distance run? Nobody wants it, and we can't just abandon the event completely, can we? Pretty please!"
