Chapter 9 - Uncontrollable Force

The town of Lewish trembled under an unnatural storm that seemed to claw its way through the skies, heavy with foreboding. The once peaceful streets now crackled with an electric tension. The air was thick and charged, like the calm before a great storm, yet the storm had already begun. The people of the town whispered anxiously, glancing up at the dark, swirling clouds that seemed to grow ever more oppressive with every passing moment.

Ezra walked through the streets, his senses on edge. The winds tugged at his cloak, and the scent of ozone hung heavily in the air, tinged with something he couldn't quite name. The earth beneath his feet seemed to shudder with each step. It wasn't just the storm. It was something deeper—an ancient power, growing stronger with every passing second.

It was Liam.

The bond between them, once faint but constant, had become a pulsing force, a reminder of the shared curse that bound them together. Ezra could feel his brother's power surging from afar—unstable, chaotic, and uncontrollable. His body trembled, not from cold, but from the raw, untamed magic that stretched between them. Liam's power was no longer just a distant presence. It was active, threatening to tear both of them apart if it was left unchecked.

As Ezra made his way to the center of town, his mind raced. Where was Liam? What had happened to him?

His thoughts were interrupted when a sudden, bone-chilling gust of wind swept through the alley. He turned quickly, his eyes meeting Lily, who had appeared almost out of nowhere. The expression on her face was somber, her usually bright demeanor now replaced with a grave seriousness that only deepened his growing dread.

"You can feel it too, can't you?" Lily asked, her voice carrying a quiet urgency.

Ezra nodded grimly. "His power… it's becoming uncontrollable. It's like nothing I've felt before."

Lily stepped closer, her eyes narrowing with concern. "It's more than just a surge of power. Liam's abilities are taking control of him. His body is beginning to succumb to it—his very form is changing, warping. The magic inside him is too much for him to bear."

Ezra's heart clenched at her words. "What do you mean by changing? His body...?"

"His form is becoming more dragon-like," Lily explained, her voice low. "But not in the way you'd expect. The power inside him is consuming him. The magic is so wild, so untamed, that it's starting to control him, to twist him beyond recognition."

Ezra felt a pang of despair. He could feel his brother's agony through their bond, and yet he was powerless to stop it. What has become of Liam? Had the curse overtaken him completely?

The wind howled louder, and Ezra looked toward the mountains in the distance. Dark shadows loomed against the storm-filled sky, and he felt an overwhelming sense of urgency. Liam was out there, and every second they wasted only made it worse.

"You don't understand, Ezra," Lily continued, her voice trembling now. "The storm—it's a manifestation of his power, but it's more than just that. It's the curse. Liam's magic was always tied to the elements, but now… now it's like his very essence is being torn apart. He's not just a dragon. He's a force of nature, and the forces inside him are becoming impossible to control."

Ezra clenched his fists, his dragon blood burning hot in his veins. "I have to find him. I can't let him suffer like this."

Lily reached out, her hand gently resting on his arm. "You must understand, Ezra. If you don't act quickly, Liam's body will be consumed by the magic. He won't be the brother you remember. The power inside him is becoming the only thing that exists."

The wind shifted, and Ezra's gaze sharpened. The storm, the unrelenting force of nature that swirled around the mountain pass, was far stronger than any natural storm he had ever encountered. His senses flared as he reached out, trying to feel the pulse of his brother's magic in the air. And then, he felt it—a surge of wild, unbridled power that was unmistakably Liam. It crashed through his senses like a tidal wave.

Ezra's heart skipped. That's him.

He took a step forward, the storm's energy pushing against him like a physical wall. But Ezra didn't hesitate. The bond between him and Liam had always been a tether, fragile yet unyielding. But now, it felt like a lifeline—if he could only reach Liam before it was too late.

The sound of a distant roar split the air, low and guttural. Ezra froze, his blood running cold. It was Liam. His brother was no longer in control of his own body. The power had taken over completely.

"We have to go now," Lily urged, her voice tight with fear. "The storm is only the beginning. His power is spiraling, and if we don't stop it soon, there will be no stopping the destruction that follows."

Ezra nodded sharply, turning to follow the pull of his brother's magic. Every instinct screamed at him to hurry, but he knew that whatever awaited him in the mountains, Liam's transformation was not the only threat they faced.

As they made their way toward the mountains, Ezra's thoughts raced. The curse, the prophecy—everything was converging now. His brother's power was no longer something to be harnessed or controlled. It had become a force of its own, and Ezra had to face it, whether he was ready or not.

He wasn't just fighting for Liam's life anymore. He was fighting for the very balance of the world.

And Ezra was beginning to realize that no matter what choice he made, it might cost him everything.
