Emily didn't speak right away.
She just kept looking at him, like she was seeing something familiar from a slightly different angle. The pride in her eyes wasn't loud or exaggerated. It was quiet, settled. Real.
"That…" she said finally, clearing her throat softly, "was beautiful."
She paused, then added more firmly, "It's a really good video, Leo. It pulls you in. People are going to like it."
Leo smiled, the tension in his shoulders easing. "What part did you like the most?"
Her face lit up instantly. "The crowd scene," she said without hesitation. "When you're standing there and everyone's moving around you. That shot felt… honest. Like you didn't need to do anything for it to work."
"Hm," Leo murmured, nodding. "Yeah. That one felt right while filming too."
Before either of them could say more, his phone started ringing.
He glanced at the screen.
Adam.
Leo picked up.
"DUDE," Adam's voice exploded through the speaker, "what the hell did you just drop? That thing is straight fire. I'm serious. People are gonna eat this up."
Leo laughed. "It could've been better. The cameraman was a bit questionable."
There was a beat of silence.
Then Adam scoffed dramatically. "Excuse me? Are you talking about the Adam? The legendary cameraman who risked his life crossing streets for those shots?"
Leo smirked. "You mean the same cameraman who gave me half a gigabyte of shaky footage?"
"HEY," Adam shot back, clearly offended. "Those were artistic shakes. Raw. Emotional."
"Sure," Leo said. "Good thing I stabilized them. Otherwise the audience would've needed motion sickness pills."
Adam ignored that completely. "By the way," he added, "you didn't even tag me."
Leo raised a brow. "I did. Check the caption."
A short pause.
Then Adam laughed, sheepish. "Okay, yeah, my bad. I saw the video and called you immediately. Didn't even read the caption."
Emily covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.
"So?" Leo asked. "What'd you think?"
"What do you think?" Adam said. "I shared it. And sent it to my gym group. And my cousin. And maybe my neighbor."
Leo sighed. "You're impossible."
"Correction," Adam said proudly. "I'm your marketing department."
Leo chuckled. "Unpaid."
"For now," Adam replied. "When you're famous, I'm charging interest."
They talked for a bit longer, Adam rambling about which shots were his "best angles" and how he expected full credit in future episodes, before finally hanging up.
Leo set the phone down.
Emily was still looking at him, a small smile lingering on her face.
"Looks like you've got support," she said softly.
Leo nodded. "Yeah."
Before the feeling could settle completely, a familiar chime sounded in his head.
A translucent black screen unfolded in front of him, silver edges pulsing faintly.

Leo stared at the numbers.
Two, from Emily and Adam
It was nothing in the grand scheme of things. Barely a flicker.
And yet his lips curved upward into a genuine smile.
Warmth spread through his chest, quiet but undeniable. Not excitement. Not adrenaline.
Confirmation.
He had stepped onto a new path. Not imagined it. Not planned it.
Taken it.
"Hey," Emily said, waving a hand lightly in front of his face. "What are you staring at so hard?"
Leo dismissed the screen and turned to her. "Nothing," he said, still smiling. "Just… happy I finally uploaded my first video."
She laughed softly. "You should be."
Then she glanced at her phone, eyebrows lifting. "Ah. Time's up. I need to head to the restaurant."
She stood and walked toward her room. Ten minutes later, she returned dressed in a beige hoodie and black jeans, hair pulled back, already shifting into work mode.
"Oh," she added casually, slipping her phone into her pocket, "we're hosting a small birthday party tonight. Call Adam. And his parents too."
Leo blinked. "A party?"
She smiled. "You're not getting out of it."
Then she leaned in, ruffled his hair lightly, and headed for the door.
"See you later."
The door closed, leaving the apartment quiet again.
Leo remained on the couch for a moment, the silence settling around him.
Then he remembered something.
His expression sharpened slightly as he called up the system again.
The screen appeared instantly.

His eyes went straight to the level.
Level 2.
So that was what the double chime that morning had been.
He remembered it clearly now. The sound that had followed his workout, brief and easy to dismiss. At the time, his mind had already been elsewhere, wrapped around the upload, the countdown, the quiet tension of taking his first step.
A level-up.
Five Attribute Points.
And one hundred System Points.
He let out a slow breath.
The next level would require one hundred and fifty EXP. A longer climb. Fewer shortcuts.
That felt right.
Then his gaze drifted lower.
System Points: 100.
The number carried weight.
A line crossed.
A condition fulfilled.
The system shop.
Leo leaned back against the couch, shoulders settling as the realization sank in. It didn't feel explosive or dramatic. Just… inevitable. Like a door he'd been walking toward without quite seeing it until now.
Another door had opened.
He focused and called up the next tab.
A new interface slid into place.
At its center hovered a single lock, glowing softly in silver.
Beneath it, clean text waited.
[Use 100 SP to unlock the Shop?]
Leo stared at it for a moment.
Not hesitation.
Consideration.
He took a breath, steady and controlled.
Then, without overthinking it, he confirmed.
The lock shattered into light.
A sudden brilliance flooded the room, white and sharp. Leo raised an arm instinctively, shielding his eyes as the glow washed over the walls, the ceiling, the furniture, as if reality itself had been briefly overwritten.
The light faded.
The air stilled.
Leo lowered his arm.
The interface had changed.
The shop was open.
