Chapter 4 - Meeting Mu Bai

The next morning after breakfast, Mu Feng left for Tianlan Magic High School.

Everything had already been arranged by Mu Zhuoyun beforehand—just as Fang Ning instructed.

Mu He accompanied him personally, given his position as one of the school's board members.

The school gate stood tall and proud, crafted from reinforced spirit-wood and engraved with flowing elemental patterns. Students passed through with chatter and excitement, uniforms neat and mana signatures faintly visible. Just one glance was enough to show—

this truly was the best magic institution in all of Bo City.

Mu He turned toward him with a polite smile.

"Xiao Feng, let's head inside."

Mu Feng returned the nod.

"Okay, Uncle He."

It was surprising how much their relationship had changed in a short time.

Over the past few days, Mu Feng spoke to Mu He often—conversing about trivial matters, asking harmless questions, laughing at the right moments. No hostility, no suspicion.

Just patience.

Now, they no longer felt like strangers.

Not friends—but no longer mere acquaintances either.

Exactly the distance Mu Feng wanted.

After entering the school, they walked through several well-maintained corridors until they reached the Principal's Office. Mu Feng could feel faint magical energy flowing through the academy walls—disciplined, refined, and structured.

Mu He knocked twice.

"Come in," a calm voice replied from inside.

They entered.

Behind a large oak desk sat Principal Zhu, an elderly man with white streaks in his hair. His presence was gentle, but his gaze held authority—a man who had shaped countless young mages of Bo City.

Mu He stepped forward with a respectful smile.

"Principal Zhu, allow me to introduce him. This is Mu Feng, a disciple of our Main Clan."

His tone carried quiet pride.

"He has come to Bo City to broaden his horizons, so I brought him to visit Tianlin Magic High School. I will accompany him personally and show him the talents of our Bo City youth."

Then, with practiced ease, Mu He took out a check and placed it on the table.

"And this—" he continued,

"is a small greeting gift from Xiao Feng."

Principal Zhu glanced at the check.

His eyes widened—only for a fraction of a second—before he masked his surprise with a professional smile.

"A sincere gesture," he nodded.

"If he carries the name of the Mu Clan, then by all means—let him tour our academy freely. The gates of Tianlin High are open to him."

Mu Feng bowed politely.

"Thank you, Principal."

The old man studied Mu Feng for a brief moment—measuring, evaluating—before turning to Mu He.

"Show him everything. Let him see what our Bo City youth are capable of."

With that, Principal Zhu dismissed them, and Mu He led Mu Feng out of the office.

They visited several senior classrooms.

Most students were Beginner Level 1—some had just broken through to Level 2.

Decent for a small city, Mu Feng thought, but nothing worth my attention.

Still, he pretended to show polite interest—asking about their training, praising their efforts, and letting Mu He feel proud of the academy.

After nearly an hour, Mu Feng finally asked:

"Uncle He, I heard your nephew also studies here and is quite talented.

Should we meet him as well?"

Mu He's expression brightened.

"Oh! You must mean Mu Bai. Yes, he's very talented. He has already controlled two stars in only three months after awakening."

He gestured toward the staircase.

"The first-year classes are on the third floor. Come, let's go."

Classroom 8

They reached Classroom 8. Mu He stepped inside for a moment, then called out:

"Mu Bai, come here. Someone wants to meet you."

A few seconds later, a teenager stepped out from behind Mu He.

He had sharp features, focused eyes, and a confident posture.

A promising young mage—just as Mu Feng expected from Mu He's "precious nephew."

Mu He introduced them.

"Xiao Feng, this is Mu Bai.

Mu Bai, this is Mu Feng, from the Main Clan in the Imperial City.

He heard about your talent and wanted to meet you."

Mu Bai's eyes widened slightly before he bowed politely.

"It's an honor, Young Master Feng."

Mu Feng raised a hand lightly.

"Don't call me Young Master. We're of the same age—just call me Feng."

Mu Bai nodded with a small smile.

"Then… Feng, it's a pleasure to meet you."

"I heard you are quite talented," Mu Feng said calmly. "Unfortunately your classes are ongoing. So come meet me at the manor after dinner."

Mu Bai bowed again.

"Alright, Feng. I'll visit you later."

Mu Feng turned to Mu He.

"Uncle He, it's getting late. Shall we go?"

"Of course, Xiao Feng. Follow me."

At the Classroom Door

As they walked out, Mu Feng deliberately paused at the doorway, eyes fixed on a pair of students inside.

A thin boy was packing his bag quietly.

Another boy stood beside him.

Mu Feng asked casually:

"Uncle He, who is that boy?"

Mu He blinked. "Which one?"

"The one beside that thin one."

Recognition flashed in Mu He's eyes.

"Oh… him."

Mu Feng noted the shift in his tone.

"It seems you know him well, Uncle He."

Mu He nodded.

"Yes. He used to live in the manor. His father was my sister-in-law's personal driver.

But later… they were expelled."

He shook his head with clear disappointment.

"And Xiao Feng, I should tell you… he is not a good person."

Mu Feng tilted his head. "Why do you say that?"

"His father sold their house to enroll him in the Magic School," Mu He said sternly.

"But the boy is lazy. Wasteful. Three months after awakening, and he still hasn't controlled a single star."

He clicked his tongue.

"Truly ungrateful. A complete waste of his father's sacrifice."

Mu Feng asked quietly:

"What element did he awaken?"

"Fire."

Mu Feng's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Fire… truly a waste of talent then. But this has nothing to do with us.

Let's go, Uncle He."

Mu He nodded, and the two left the school grounds.

Soon after, they returned to the Mu Manor.

After getting out of the car, Mu Feng immediately dismissed Mu He, not wanting him to follow any further. He walked straight toward Fang Ning's courtyard. After knocking on the door, he entered when his grandfather called:

"Come in."

Fang Ning was seated comfortably on the sofa, reading a scroll. He looked up.

"You're back. Did you meet that boy? How is he?"

Mu Feng nodded.

"Yes, I met him. He can be considered talented. You will see for yourself when he comes later. He'll visit after dinner."

He paused, then added,

"Grandpa, I need you to prepare a Mortal-grade Stardust Cultivation Tool."

Fang Ning raised an eyebrow.

"You intend to give it to that boy?"

"Yes. To earn his loyalty, we must show him the benefits of siding with us."

Fang Ning chuckled lightly.

"Very well. I'll prepare it. Anything else?"

Mu Feng's expression sharpened.

"How is the progress with the bow? Did Pan Xi find the issue?"

Fang Ning's gaze turned heavier.

"Yes. According to him, someone forcefully merged the bow with her soul, so she could control it more easily."

Mu Feng's eyes narrowed.

"Who did it?"

"Pan Xi suspects Mu Ningxue's mother. She also possessed a fragment of the bow. After she failed to control her piece, it was handed to Mu Ningxue instead. Since Ningxue is her daughter, she inherited a degree of control through bloodline resonance.

A clever plan… If we had not discovered it in time, Mu Ningxue's control might have surpassed even Pan Xi's."

Mu Feng exhaled slowly.

"Mu Ningxue's mother seems very ambitious."

Fang Ning snorted softly.

"She always wanted to become a clan elder. But her overconfidence will now bring trouble to her daughter."

Mu Feng leaned forward.

"When will Pan Xi take action?"

"The day after tomorrow."

"I see…"

Mu Feng stood.

"Grandpa, I want to take a stroll around the city. Alone."

Fang Ning frowned.

"No. It's risky—especially with Black Vatican members nearby."

"But Grandpa," Mu Feng argued calmly,

"with the tools you gave me, I can survive even a Super-level spell. The strongest person in this city is only a High-level Mage. I'll be completely safe.

Please."

Fang Ning hesitated, then sighed.

"Alright. Go. But return before dinner."

Mu Feng smiled faintly.

"Yes, Grandpa."

With permission, Mu Feng took one of the clan cars and drove out of the estate. He visited the market, wandered through several streets, observing the city's atmosphere and layout. Everything matched what he already knew—nothing suspicious.

Eventually, he headed toward a familiar place:

The Hill Behind Tianlan Magic School

The hill was adjacent to the school grounds, a small but peaceful place. The authorities had cleared all demon beasts from the area, making it one of the safest cultivation spots in the city.

According to the memories of this world… Mo Fan used to cultivate here.

Mu Feng climbed to the top and took a look from behind a tree.

And there he was:

Mo Fan, sitting on the ground beneath a large tree, eyes closed, quietly meditating. Mana pulsed softly around him.

Mu Feng did not approach.

He simply watched for a moment.

Good. He's here… and that's all I needed.

His work was done.

He didn't want to alert Mo Fan or alter the trajectory too early.

He turned around and descended the hill.

Soon after, Mu Feng headed back to the Mu Manor—

his next move already forming in his mind.
