Owen pulled Rowan into the puddle; the water was cool, seeping into their feet. It was a bit chilly, but still acceptable.
"Reach down and try looking, right under that rock over there," he pointed to a small rocky crevice underwater.
Rowan curiously cooperated. He bent down, rolled up his sleeves, reached his hand to the bottom of the water, and groped around for a while.
Something slippery was wiggling and gliding past the back of his hand; he hurriedly grabbed at it but missed.
"There is something moving, it's very fast."
Owen laughed; he didn't expect the silly bug from years ago to run so fast now. In the past, he would catch one immediately with a single strike.
He waited silently for a moment, focusing on observing the water flow, then suddenly thrust his hand down as fast as lightning, grabbing the animal's tail and lifting it out of the water.
"This is a white-shelled water beetle. It's really fun, here, for you."
