At dawn, Kurzadh climbed out of his stone bed, stretched, and his joints cracked.
His big boss's house finally looked decent—Dragu led the hobgoblins to work for half a month, laying foundations with Kurzadh and building frames with wood, managing to construct a two-story building.
The first floor was a large open space with a few rough stone slabs as tables, where he, Wreelx, and Dragu would discuss matters; the second floor had only one room, besides his stone bed, there was just a wooden chest for gold coins and maps, which was quite peaceful.
His stone bed was covered with a wild wolf skin, from the one Scarface and the goblins had killed a few days prior, it was furry and much more comfortable than straw.
Kurzadh touched the wolf skin, feeling pleased—being the boss was great, having a private room and soft bedding, a hundred times better than squeezing into a cave when he first transmigrated.
He slipped on his straw sandals and went downstairs; there were already people on the first floor.
Wreelx was squatting by a stone slab, sharpening a axe, and Dragu was picking his teeth with a stone spear tip. Seeing Kurzadh come down, they quickly stood up: "boss, what are we doing today? Do you want to check the sheep pen? It seemed like a ewe was about to give birth yesterday."
"Let Zaggur keep an eye on the sheep pen." Kurzadh waved his hand and walked towards the door, "Today we have something more important—cleaning!"
Wreelx and Dragu exchanged glances, both a little confused.
Cleaning? Why was the boss thinking about this every day? But they didn't dare ask more and quickly followed him out.
Kurzadh's target was the open space in the corner of the tribe. Before, the greenskins would relieve themselves anywhere, making it reek, and he had wanted to clean it up for a long time.
He had Dragu call over the dozen or so most nimble goblin, and told Wreelx to bring a few thick logs and some stone slabs. He himself squatted on the ground and drew circles.
"Dragu, stick the logs in here!" Kurzadh pointed at the circles on the ground, "Stick them deep, make them sturdy!"
"goblin, place the stone slabs next to them! Arrange them like steps!"
Although the greenskins didn't know what they were doing, since the boss said to do it, they worked hard with their heads down.
Dragu swung his axe to smash pits in the ground, inserted the logs, and if they were crooked, he'd kick them a couple of times; the goblins carried stone slabs and placed them on the steps, if they were crooked, they'd push them with their claws, working up a sweat.
Kurzadh directed them, spitting as he spoke: "That log on the left, move it a bit more to the left! Don't block the way!" "Don't stack the stone slabs so high! The goblin won't be able to climb up!" He remembered what dry toilets in rural areas looked like in his previous life, so he built it according to that model—a wooden frame, stone slabs for the floor, and straw to cover the sides, simple and practical.
After a morning of effort, they finally made something decent.
The wooden frame was propped up, the stone slab steps were crooked, and the straw covering was haphazard, looking quite ugly, but it was indeed better than relieving themselves anywhere.
"Everyone, get ova here!" Kurzadh yelled, hands on his hips.
The greenskins were squatting nearby, watching the commotion, and quickly gathered when they heard the shout.
Kurzadh pointed at the dry toilet: "From now on, everyone comes here to use the toilet! If anyone relieves themselves anywhere else again, I'll punish him by not letting him eat mushrooms for three days!"
The greenskins looked at the wooden frame, their faces blank. Wreelx scratched his head: "boss, this thing… how do we use it? Standing or squatting?"
"Squatting!" Kurzadh glared at him, "If you don't know how, watch others! But you are not allowed to relieve yourselves outside!"
As he spoke, a "ding" sounded in his mind, and the system prompt popped up:
[New blueprint collected: "Dry Toilet".]
[Description: Greenskins have always been unclean, but the greenskins of the Blackrock Clan are an exception. After construction, it reduces the tribe's disease infection rate by 15%.]
[Collection Reward: Unlocked troop type "hobgoblin Laborers" (upgraded from ordinary goblin, more intelligent and skilled than ordinary goblin). Each upgrade consumes Waaagh! Energy × 3.]
Kurzadh was stunned for a moment, then he chuckled—building a dry toilet could unlock a troop type? This was a good deal! hobgoblin Laborers, they sounded more useful than ordinary goblin, and would come in handy for building houses and making bows and arrows later.
"Dragu! Wreelx! Keep an eye on them and teach them how to use the dry toilet!" Kurzadh shouted, then turned and ran towards the shanty area. He had to quickly try out this upgrade function!
The thirty goblin who had followed him earliest were squatting on the ground twisting straw ropes. Seeing Kurzadh run over, they all stopped their work and looked up at him.
These goblin had been with him the longest, never falling behind from the start. Scarface was originally one of them, but Kurzadh wanted Scarface to continue as the guard captain, so he didn't count him.
"Everyone, stand up!" Kurzadh shouted.
The goblin quickly stood up, their green faces tense, not knowing what the boss wanted to do.
The surrounding greenskins also gathered to watch the commotion, all looking on curiously.
Kurzadh cleared his throat, and imitating his previous actions, raised both hands and shouted: "Gork and Mork above! My boys are clean! they have listened to your commands!! Make my boys bigger and stronger!!"
After shouting, he silently thought: "Upgrade these thirty goblin!"
[Confirm consuming Waaagh! Energy × 90 to upgrade 30 ordinary goblin to hobgoblin Laborers?]
"Confirm!"
Instantly, thirty rays of green light "swished" out, completely enveloping the thirty goblin.
The greenskins retreated in fright, staring with wide eyes, Hissing in awe—another miracle!
Within the green light, the thirty goblin visibly transformed.
They grew about half a head taller, though still not as tall as the hobgoblins, but they no longer looked like "bean sprouts"; the confusion in their eyes lessened, replaced by a bit more clarity, and their gaze towards Kurzadh brightened; some even subconsciously brushed off the straw from their hands, their movements much more agile than before.
Soon, the green light dissipated.
The thirty goblin stood in place, looking at each other, then down at their own claws, and suddenly started yelling "Waaagh!"—they felt they had strength!
Their minds were clearer! They had always felt clumsy when twisting straw ropes, but now it seemed they suddenly knew how!
"Boss! We... we became stronger!" one goblin shouted excitedly, his voice trembling.
"Thank you, boss!" The other goblin also shouted, "Boss is awesome!" They crowded towards Kurzadh, wanting to rub his arm, but also somewhat hesitant.
Kurzadh looked at their spirited appearance, feeling very pleased.
These hobgoblin Laborers were indeed different; they looked more nimble than before, and would surely be able to do more work in the future.
He turned to look at the surrounding greenskins —whether goblin or hobgoblins, all were wide-eyed, full of envy, some even swallowing, looking at the thirty goblin as if they were roasted lamb.
"What are you looking at?" Kurzadh grinned, raising his voice, "As long as you listen to me! Be clean! Work hard! In the future, you can all be like them, becoming bigger and stronger!"
"Really?" Wreelx was the first to shout, his eyes as bright as light bulbs, "boss, if I go to that 'dry toilet' every day, can I also get bigger?"
"Yes!" Kurzadh patted his chest, "Not only bigger, but also smarter! Able to make bows and arrows! Able to move big stones!"
"Waaagh!" The greenskins instantly erupted, "I want to get bigger!" "I'm going to the dry toilet too!" "Boss, I'm going to take a bath right now!"
The greenskins who had just been disgusted by the dry toilet were now all running towards it, crowding to try it out; some goblin rushed directly to the river, stripped off their clothes and jumped into the water, scrubbing themselves until they were covered in suds; even the laziest Wreelx picked up a straw rope and squatted on the ground, twisting it vigorously, wanting the boss to see how diligent he was.
Kurzadh looked at the chaotic tribe and couldn't help but laugh. This system really understood greenskins , knowing they would fall for the "get bigger and stronger" trick.
With the hobgoblin Laborers and the motivation of the other greenskins , building houses and making weapons would surely be much faster in the future.
"Boss!" Dragu approached, rubbing his hands, his face full of anticipation, "Uh... if I perform well, can I become even bigger than an orc?"
"As long as you're obedient, why not?" Kurzadh patted his shoulder, "First, fix up that dry toilet again! Make the straw covering tighter! Don't let the wind in!"
"Alright!" Dragu immediately agreed, pulling Wreelx towards the dry toilet, "Wreelx! Give me a hand! Move the straw to the left!"
Kurzadh stood in place, watching the thirty hobgoblin Laborers comparing their heights with each other, and then watching the greenskins crowding towards the dry toilet, feeling very reassured.
