The moment had finally arrived. Everything I had worked toward led to this single evening.
Jeffrey and Naia descended the grand staircase with Norton guiding them down each step. Norton moved with the natural grace of someone raised within these palace walls, while I had entered this world through marriage. Still, tonight belonged to my children.
Naia commanded attention in her flowing princess gown, her smile bright enough to illuminate the entire ballroom. I couldn't help but chuckle watching Jeffrey tug uncomfortably at his formal collar. The boy clearly despised these stuffy royal protocols as much as I once had.
My grin widened. Jeffrey was like looking into a mirror of my younger self. Every gesture, every expression, every hint of rebellion against tradition reminded me exactly of who I used to be.
