Jasmine's POV
"You marked me last night, and I want to mark you in return." Jayden's voice was barely above a whisper.
My entire body went rigid.
What did he just say?
I spun to face him, my heart hammering against my ribs. There was no way I could have marked him. That was impossible, wasn't it?
"No," I breathed, my eyes growing wide with panic. "That can't be right. I would never..."
But even as the words left my lips, something deep inside me stirred. My wolf and demon both responded to his statement with a primal recognition that made my stomach drop. The connection I felt to him, the way my pulse quickened whenever he was near, suddenly made terrifying sense.
I shook my head frantically, desperate to cling to my disbelief.
"I don't remember any of that," I said, my voice cracking. "The only thing I can recall is someone jabbing me with something sharp, like a needle, and then everything went black."
The confession tumbled out before I could stop it.
