Two days had passed since my confrontation with the king, and the silence was deafening.
Nobody had come to see me. Not Jayden. Not Ebony. Not even the king himself.
Maybe I deserved this isolation. Maybe this was my punishment.
I perched on the edge of my childhood bed in what used to be my palace room. The space felt suffocating now, stripped of warmth despite the familiar furnishings. Everything looked the same, but the atmosphere had shifted completely.
In the corner by the tall windows, Naia and Jeffrey constructed elaborate towers from colorful blocks, their delighted squeals echoing as they knocked down their creations. I watched them, forcing my lips into what I hoped resembled a smile, though my chest felt hollow.
