Jasmine's POV
The phone rang, shattering the peaceful afternoon as I watched Lina help the twins into their car seats.
"Jasmine, you need to come to my bookstore right now. Something terrible has happened." Chloe's voice cracked through the speaker, every word trembling with a fear I had never heard from her before.
The line went dead.
My blood turned to ice as I stared at the silent phone. In all the years I had known Chloe, she had never sounded like that. Not once. The woman who spoke in mysterious riddles and faced every crisis with supernatural calm now sounded completely shattered.
"Jasmine, we need to leave now or we'll be late for the ceremony," Lina called from the driver's seat, already starting the engine while the twins giggled in their matching outfits.
