My fingers shook as I read through the letter one more time. I pressed my back against the cool wall, needing the support as the full impact hit me like a physical blow.
Chloe; Aunt Naia's cousin.
The name meant nothing to me, yet something about the careful script felt intimate, personal. Was this legitimate? Could someone truly linked to Aunt Naia be contacting me now, when everything had spiraled into chaos?
My gut told me this could be another elaborate setup.
Questions crashed through my mind in waves: Was this Chloe genuinely able to reveal who had targeted my children? Or was she simply another player in whatever twisted game was unfolding around us?
I quickly refolded the parchment and slipped it back into its sealed container. The box disappeared behind the bottom drawer of my office cabinet, and I turned the lock with decisive force.
