Jasmine's POV
My consciousness drifted back slowly, my eyelids heavy as I struggled to focus on the ceiling above. A throbbing pain hammered against my skull, making every breath feel labored.
When I finally managed to turn my head, I found Jayden sitting rigidly in the corner chair. Naia and Jeffrey were nestled in his strong arms, their tiny bodies pressed against his chest like precious treasures. Dried tears marked their sleeping faces, their small hands still clutching his shirt even in slumber.
The sight sent a sharp stab through my heart.
I fought back the moisture gathering in my eyes, but before I could gather my thoughts, the door swung open. Lina burst in, slightly out of breath, carrying a steaming cup.
"You're finally awake," she murmured, rushing to my bedside.
Palmer lingered by the doorframe, arms folded across his chest. His silence spoke volumes about what they had witnessed.
