Sylvia claimed she could make me Jayden's wife.
I let out a hollow laugh, studying her face while questioning my own judgment for following her from my bedroom to this windswept balcony.
Pure curiosity had driven me here, perhaps.
The smart choice would have been slamming the door shut the instant I spotted Sylvia on my threshold. That simple action would have spared me from this absurd conversation.
A deep sigh escaped my lips as the crisp morning breeze made me shudder involuntarily.
The air carried winter's bite, yet Sylvia's audacious words ignited something fierce within my chest.
I folded my arms defensively and demanded answers. "Explain yourself."
"You understand perfectly." Her smile held cunning undertones. "My offer benefits us both. You receive your heart's desire, and I claim mine."
She presented her scheme as though extending a generous gift wrapped in gold, but the entire notion was preposterous.
