Jayden's POV
She had no idea I was watching.
Jasmine stood alone on the terrace, her frame shaking as she gazed into the darkness beyond. The fierce spirit that usually blazed within her had vanished completely. The sight filled me with dread.
Then her legs gave out beneath her.
I lunged forward, catching her before she hit the stone floor. Her body went slack in my arms, trembling like a leaf in a storm.
"Jasmine." The desperation in my voice surprised me as I held her steady. "Tell me what's wrong."
Tears carved paths down her cheeks while her mouth moved soundlessly, forming words I couldn't understand.
"Look at me, Jasmine."
But she couldn't. Her gaze remained distant and hollow, as if she'd retreated somewhere I couldn't follow. Her skin felt ice cold against mine, like life itself was seeping away from her.
I scanned the area frantically, expecting to find some threat lurking nearby. Nothing. Only the echo of her heartbroken sobs.
