Jasmine's POV
The weeks following the council meeting passed in a haze of uncertainty and mounting tension.
I found myself drawn to the tall windows of my chambers each morning, watching the palace grounds come alive below. Servants hurried across the stone pathways carrying linens and supplies. A young maid paused to lift a small child who had been trailing behind her, spinning the giggling girl in a circle before setting her down gently.
The sight sent a sharp pang through my chest. My thoughts immediately turned to Jeffrey and Naia.
Starting school had been a milestone I had celebrated with mixed emotions. While pride swelled in my heart watching them grow more independent, the quiet hours without their laughter echoing through the halls left an ache I couldn't shake.
