Alice found Rowan and Bella the next day, before they had even made their way to the cafeteria.
She vibrated like a stereo playing the year's greatest dance beats.
"I've decided," She announced, walking between the girls and linking her arms with both, "You're sitting with us today."
"Us...who?" Bella blinked. She hadn't really been introduced to the Forks gossip mill yet, having gravitated more toward Rowan than the kids in her grade.
Rowan sighed, "She means her cov..." Alice elbowed her lightly, so she switched what she was going to say, "...her family."
Bella offered a polite smile toward Alice. She was nervous, but really, sitting with the strange Cullens was the least of her worries...not when stone hallways called to her in dreams.
They entered the cafeteria and instantly became the center of Forks High's attention. Students craned their necks to see the trio, eyes widening while the Cullens sat at their usual table, radiating untouchable perfection.
Edward looked irritated.
Jasper looked wary.
Emmett grinned so wide it was frightening.
And Rosalie watched like she was analyzing a threat.
Rowan felt their 'wrongness' itch at her core where her magic sat.
Alice guided the two girls to open seats between Jasper and where she normally sat.
Bella sat gingerly as if she was expecting to be rejected from the inanimate plastic seat. Rowan sat with resignation of someone approaching a trap they'd seen a mile away.
It was quiet all of four seconds.
Then Rowan's fork floated.
It rose a little - barely a twitch from its seated position on her lunch tray, and then it hovered in the air as if it was checking the exits so it could escape.
Alice's jaw dropped.
Rosalie's chair squeaked as she leaned forward.
Emmett choked on the milk; he was trying to pretend to drink.
Jasper startled.
And Edward jerked back with a hiss.
Rowan slapped the fork down so fast it clattered, causing vibrations down the table.
"Nope." She declared, "We are not doing that today."
The Cullens stared, and Bella let out a nervous giggle.
Then, Emmet slapped the table, causing fissures to go from where he hit. "OH MY GOD...did that just...did you...Rowan, what the hell..." He dissolved into laughter he tried to smother it with his elbow.
"That - was - brilliant." Alice nearly sparkled with glee.
Rosalie raised an eyebrow, "A witch?"
Rowan shook her head with a laugh, "If I were, I'd be much better at it."
Bella looked at the fork that sat now inconspicuously by Rowan's plate, "Is this...normal for you?":
"Define normal." Rowan picked up the offensive fork and began poking at the questionable cafeteria food. Maybe she should start packing both Bella and her own lunches; this looked barely edible, let alone healthy.
Jasper tried to soothe everyone's nerves - only to flinch at Rowan's chaotic emotional aura ricocheting around him.
Alice, though, was completely unbothered; she leaned forward, her chin on top of her hands. "I like you two, sit with us every day."
Bella blinked.
Rowan sighed, relinquishing control like it were fate.
Emmett fist-pumped in the air.
And Edward glared.
And outside the world seemed to lean closer, sensing hidden magic that was cracking open.
