Chapter 5 - The Red-Haired Bastard IV

(Ellion's POV)

"We can't thank you enough for that." the merchant to my side said as the carriage was moving down the road, "Those bandits could've killed us."

"It's no big deal." I said with a shrug

I was sitting on a crate atop one of the caravan wagons, tending to my blade with oil. After having killed the bandits, I tended to the surviving soldier's leg and we kept the caravan going. We dropped him off at the nearby camp and the other Lannister men went to retrieve the remains of the others.

I hopped a ride with these men to Lannisport since I had business there. I had heard there was to be some sort of Tourney that Lord Tywin was holding, in honor of the new prince being born. I heard some other Great Houses are attending, such as House Baratheon.

But before I attend that tourney, I had plans to go to Lannisport and have some fun there. There was a woman who I heard was to be there.

"I hear Lord Tywin is to hold a tourney." the merchant said, "We're headed to Lannisport to trade. Some of us are also going to set up stands at the Tourney. We'll be fortunate to have you there, guarding us. We'll pay you some coin along with food and wine."

I looked at him with a slight smile, "Sounds like a plan." I said, "But I do plan on taking part of the Tourney."

"Is that so?" He asked, "You wish to Joust?"

"Something like that." I said as I finished oiling Gloriosa [a/n: ;)], "To take part of battle is exciting. Fighting punk bandits is not something I plan to do the rest of my life."

"Ah, I see." He said, "You're one of those Knights who loves to fight."

"Well, I'm not a Knight. I don't think I can call myself a proper Hedge Knight, but I suppose so." I said as the wagon hit some rocks that caused it to jump up slightly, "Where will you be in Lannisport?"

"We'll be by the port." He said, "Do you have something to do there?"

"Something like that." I said with a smirk, "But I'll stay for the Tourney, so I'll search you lot when that happens. I do hear there's a lot of trouble nowadays in the Westerlands. Lord Tywin Lannister hasn't done much to quell the dangers."

"He's going to slam his fist down like the strict lord he is." He said, "I just know he is."

I nodded, "Yea, you can say that." I said, "Well, I do wonder what exactly he'll do."

I then felt the wagon slow down to a stop.

"We're here." the rider said, "Welcome to Lannisport erm.....what was your name again?"

I stood up and jumped down from the wagon, landing on my feet and began to stretch, "Aahhh...." I said, "Ellion. Ellion Rivers."

"Rivers?" He said as he looked at me, "You're a Bastard?"

I rubbed my neck as I placed my sheathed sword between my belt, having it snug in there, "Yea." I said, "I guess so."

"A Riverlands Bastard here? Do you know your father?" He asked

I looked at him with a raised eyebrow, "Awfully insensitive, aren't you?" I said, "Why don't you mind your business?"

He raised his hands apologetically, "Sorry." He said, "It's just that you have red hair and you say you are a Rivers."

"Is my Father a Tully?" I said, "I don't know. Why don't you go to Riverrun and ask Lord Hoster."

"Again, I am sorry." He said

I waved him off, "Whatever." I said, "Thanks for the ride."

"I'll see you all later."

*************

I was walking down the street of Lannisport, looking back up to see Casterly Rock above. The massive fortress of a Castle was sitting nicely atop the mountain. To think that the Lannisters are housed nicely and cozy up there, it must be nice for them.

Well, it shouldn't matter to me at the moment.

I reached a small building, smoke coming out of the chimney at the back, "Okay...." I said, "I should ask around for her. Maybe this is the first place to stop. I should buy something, she does like sweets."

I pulled out my coin purse, seeing that I had very little coins. I opened it and saw a couple of silver and gold coins in there. There were a few copper coins in there too, mixed with the bunch. I think I should use them for the bread.

"Hm...." I said, "This is my life's savings here. Some of it I stole off bandits, the rest I earned it from generous Lords. Lord Blackwood was a nice man."

I then walked up to the door and opened it, walking inside and closing it behind me. This was the bakery, the smell of freshly baked bread filled the room and caused my stomach to rumble in hunger.

"Hm..." I said as I saw a man approach the counter

"Hello there." He said, "How could I help you today?"

I pulled a copper star, giving it to the man, "Give me some lemon cakes and a loaf of bread." I said, "Would that be enough?"

"That would buy plenty of them." He said with a raised eyebrows, "And some fruit-filled tarts if you want em."

I nodded, "That's okay." I said, "How long would it take?"

"Eh, I just started some loafs of bread." He said, "I'll start the sweets right now. Do you have somewhere to be?"

"Not right now." I said, "I can wait."

"About an hour. I might as well start more batches." He said, "My daughter will give them to you when you're done."

I pointed behind me, "I'll be down the street then." I said, "The tannery is down there, right?"

"Oh yea. Faust is the Tanner, he's quite good at it." He said

I nodded, "Good." I said, "I'll be there and possibly the weaponsmith. If I'm not here when the pastries and bread are ready, send your daughter with them."

He nodded, "No problem." He said, "Good doing business with you."

"Also." I said as I pulled out a penny and slid it to him, "Do you know if some.....Ladies....have been strolling around Lannisport?"

He took the penny, "Ladies?" He said, "As in.....the ones from above?"

I nodded, "Something like that."

"Not really." He said, "But I did hear because of the Tourney, some Stormlands nobles will be passing through."

"Ah." I said with a slight smile, "That's good enough. Thanks."

"I await the pastries soon."
