Chapter 2 - Chapter 1 - Born of Storm

The storm gave birth to destruction — lava eruption, lightning, death, and Qezo. No one knew how it happened, but it did. Survivors saw, right before they thought they'd die, a baby fly out from the heart of the storm. He fell into the hands of the startled Schmool, who then watched the tempest dissolve into nothingness — as if its purpose had been fulfilled. Schmool didn't feel responsible for the newborn, and though he hesitated, Schmool abandoned the boy without much guilt (he would later regret this choice as his karma unfolds..). Yet, even having survived a storm, Schmool found no sunshine; his mind remained his fiercest enemy, his heart his gravest pain.

Edg was the only one who noticed the infant lying under a tree, half-hidden among the shrubs. He slowly raised his head — the child lay there — naked. It took him some time to realize that the infant was staring blankly at a point. He ran towards the child, and began pressing the baby's chest. As he pressed, he realized — the heart was still beating. The unblinking, uncrying child was looking at him, astonished. Edg jolted. He slowly lifted the boy, causing the sky to respond with a bright lightning strike. Edg then wrapped him gently in his shirt and held him close to his body. The thunder tumultuously followed. Then, as if guided by something beyond himself, Edg opened his mouth and uttered a name — "Qezo." Something rumbled from above. Edg looked at the sky and his heart nearly stopped beating at what he saw. Half hidden among the fog, it was an asteroid, descending to crush Edg and the child beneath it.

By the shore, a small clay hut stood. Inside, two little girls were praying to Kzu, the Sun lord, as the dawn broke. Concluding it, they placed their palms on their heads and rose. Mo looked at her mother, "Elder brother skipped the prayer again, Mother."

Djool smiled at her daughter sadly and looked at the young man outside the window, by the seashore. He stood there wetting his feet and bent down to take a palmful of sand. Kyrr, his name was, looked at the sand loathefully and poured it into his mouth, choking out half of it in the process. He coughed, gulped and stared at the dazzling Sun.

"I like darkness more." Said he.
