Chapter 68 - chapter 68

TOOTHLESS MEETS RAVEN AND ZATANNA"

(Two Witches, One Dragon, and One Very Stressed Boyfriend)

Damian had handled assassins, aliens, demons, and even nearly being caught by Batman.

But nothing—

nothing—

prepared him for introducing Raven and Zatanna to Toothless.

The Night Fury stood behind him, wings folded politely, humming with excitement.

Damian had told him repeatedly:

"Behave."

Toothless nodded.

"Do not blast any buildings."

Another nod.

"No jumping on people."

A confused head tilt.

Good enough.

RAVEN ARRIVES FIRST — AND IMMEDIATELY STOPS

Raven floated down from the sky like a silent shadow, her hood up.

"Damian… you said you had something to show me."

She stepped forward—

Then froze.

Her eyes widened.

"…Is that a dragon?"

Damian cleared his throat, trying to sound casual.

"Yes. This is Toothless."

Toothless let out a soft chirp and approached slowly, head low, curious.

Raven blinked, utterly stunned.

Her emotions slipped out before she could control them.

A mix of awe… wonder… and a blush.

"He's… beautiful," she whispered.

Toothless nudged her hand with his nose.

Raven's entire face flushed.

"Damian… he's affectionate."

Damian smirked.

"He likes people who are calm."

Toothless curled around her gently, like a giant, protective cat.

Raven gave Damian a deadpan look.

"…He likes me more than you."

"Toothless," Damian warned.

Toothless ignored him completely and purred louder.

Raven smirked.

ZATANNA ARRIVES — AND IMMEDIATELY FLIRTS

A swirl of blue sparkles formed behind them.

Zatanna stepped out of her teleportation spell wearing a stylish jacket and boots.

"Damian, sweetie! You said you had a surprise for—"

She stopped mid-sentence.

Then gasped.

"YOU GOT A DRAGON?!"

Toothless turned toward her, curious.

Zatanna clasped her hands, sparkles dancing around her.

"He's ADORABLE! Oh, look at your big shiny eyes!"

She walked right up to him and scratched under his chin.

Toothless' pupils widened.

He leaned into her touch.

Zatanna beamed.

"Awww, Damian! He likes me!"

Raven crossed her arms sharply.

"He likes everyone."

Zatanna smirked back.

"Or maybe I just have better energy."

Dark magic flickered behind Raven's eyes.

"Oh really?"

Toothless sensed the tension and stepped protectively in front of Damian.

WHO DOES TOOTHLESS LIKE MORE?

Raven: "He prefers calmness."

Zatanna: "He prefers charm."

The two women glared at each other.

Damian facepalmed.

"This was a mistake."

Toothless looked between them, then made his decision.

He walked forward…

…and placed his head on Raven's lap.

Raven blinked.

Hard.

"I… I wasn't expecting that."

Zatanna sputtered.

"WHAT?! But I— I scratched his chin!"

Raven gently stroked Toothless' head, still stunned.

"He chose me."

Zatanna pointed dramatically at the dragon.

"TRAITOR."

Toothless chirped unapologetically.

A WILD PROBLEM — TOOTHLESS LIKES BOTH

Zatanna pouted.

Damian felt his soul leave his body.

"Oh no."

Toothless walked over to Zatanna next and bumped his head against her stomach, almost knocking her over.

Zatanna squeaked.

"Awww—okay, maybe I forgive you."

She hugged his neck.

Raven's eyebrow twitched.

"You forgave him quickly."

Zatanna smirked.

"He gave me affection. Men should take notes."

Damian groaned.

"Please don't turn this into relationship warfare."

Both girls turned toward him in perfect synchronization.

"No promises."

Damian muttered,

"I regret everything."

Toothless purred loudly in agreement.

THE THREE OF THEM — DRAGON INCLUDED

Eventually, the three sat together on the ground, Toothless curled around all of them like a living, scaly blanket.

Raven leaned on Damian's left shoulder.

Zatanna leaned on his right.

Damian was trapped and could not escape.

"Are you comfortable?" Raven asked softly.

"No," Damian said truthfully.

"I am surrounded."

Zatanna laughed.

"You're loved. Deal with it."

Raven nodded.

"Accept your fate."

Toothless placed his head on Damian's lap.

Damian looked down at the giant dragon, then at the two magical women attached to him.

He exhaled.

"…This is my life now."

Raven smiled warmly.

Zatanna kissed his cheek.

And Toothless purred like an engine.

THE DATE THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN NORMAL"

(But Toothless exists, so of course it wasn't)

It was supposed to be simple.

A quiet date.

Raven, Zatanna, and Damian.

Just the three of them.

Dinner.

A walk.

Maybe a peaceful night.

Damian made the plan carefully:

Toothless would stay behind in the Batcave with a barrel of fish and a movie playing on a giant screen.

Batman even helped.

He looked at the dragon sternly.

"Toothless. Stay."

Toothless sat.

Nodded.

Good.

Three minutes later…

As soon as the trio walked out of the cave—

THUD.

A shadow passed overhead.

Damian froze.

Raven looked up.

Zatanna sighed.

A massive black shape swooped down from the sky.

Toothless landed in front of them proudly, wings spread wide, chirping excitedly like:

"HI. I ALSO WANT DATE."

Damian whispered,

"No. No no no…"

Toothless chirped louder, grabbed Damian's cape gently between his teeth, and started dragging him toward the forest.

Zatanna laughed so hard she almost fell.

Raven was deadpan.

"…He refuses to be left behind."

Zatanna grinned.

"Well… he is basically your giant scaly child."

Damian glared.

"He is not—"

Toothless wrapped him in his tail like a python and hugged him.

Damian:

"…fine. Maybe."

AT THE PARK — WHERE NORMALITY DIES

The three sat on a picnic blanket Raven conjured with magic.

Toothless sat exactly two centimeters behind them, staring, breathing loudly, his eyes HUGE.

Zatanna opened the basket.

"That's… very close," she said.

Raven flicked a finger and cast a small ward.

"Space."

Toothless immediately crawled back inside the boundary like a stubborn cat breaking rules.

Damian groaned.

"Can we have ten minutes without—"

Toothless flopped onto his back dramatically, rolled over, and placed his head directly on Damian's lap.

Damian stopped mid-sentence.

"…Alright. Continue."

Raven smirked.

Zatanna winked.

THE GIRLS TALK — AND TOOTHLESS JOINS

Zatanna gently curled her hand around Damian's right arm.

Raven rested her head on his left shoulder.

It was peaceful for exactly twelve seconds.

Then Toothless evaluated the situation…

…and decided he too deserved to be part of the affection circle.

He scooted forward.

Placed his head in everyone's lap.

Covered half the blanket with his wings.

Zatanna:

"…He wants cuddles."

Raven:

"Of course he does."

Damian:

"I did not sign up for this."

Toothless purred loudly, vibrating the entire blanket.

COUPLE MOMENTS — DRAGON APPROVED

Raven gently took Damian's hand.

Zatanna leaned forward and kissed his cheek.

Damian blushed—rare, but real.

Toothless watched them… intensely.

Then chirped approvingly, nudging their hands together with his nose.

Zatanna laughed.

"He's literally third-wheeling AND supporting us."

Raven stroked the dragon's head.

"He's part of the relationship now."

Damian choked.

"He is NOT—"

Toothless wrapped his tail around all three of them.

Damian sighed.

"…Never mind."

THE WALK — WHERE TOOTHLESS BECOMES A MENACE

They walked through the forest path.

Toothless followed behind them, humming, occasionally bumping Damian forward like:

"Go. Hold their hands."

Zatanna whispered,

"He's trying to be your wingman."

Raven's lips quirked up.

"Wingdragon."

Damian looked betrayed by the universe.

Then Toothless suddenly ran ahead, leaped into the air, and blasted a fireball that formed a heart shape in the sky.

Zatanna gasped.

"That is SO cute!"

Raven's cheeks turned magenta.

"…He did that on purpose."

Damian hid his face.

"Please stop watching us."

Toothless chirped innocently, knowing exactly what he was doing.

THE END OF THE NIGHT

The sun began to set.

The three of them sat on a hilltop, Toothless curled around them like a giant warm blanket.

Zatanna rested her head on Damian's chest.

Raven intertwined her fingers with his.

Toothless thumped his tail happily each time Damian touched either of the girls.

Damian whispered,

"…Thank you. Both of you."

Raven gave a soft smile.

"You deserve happiness."

Zatanna kissed his jaw.

"And we're not going anywhere."

Behind them, Toothless purred like an engine.

Damian sighed in defeated affection.

"…Fine. You can come on every date."

Toothless chirped triumphantly.
