Chapter 74 - chapter 74

THIS ISN'T THE TIMELINE ANYMORE…"

Damian realizes the universe is changing because of him — and Doomsday is coming early.

The moment Batman left the Watchtower meeting room, the hidden communicator in his belt clicked off.

Damian leaned against the rooftop air vent above Gotham, hood down, wind cutting across his face, lungs tight.

He stared at the city lights, his heartbeat hammering like a war drum.

Doomsday… fourteen days…

This isn't right.

This isn't how it happened.

In every version of his past life — comics, animated movies, even the alternate universes — the Justice League didn't know Doomsday existed until he arrived.

But now?

They detected him two weeks early.

They saw the energy signature.

They were preparing.

Meaning:

The timeline was no longer following the script.

And Damian was the variable that changed it.

He clenched his fists.

The system. My choices.

Saving people I shouldn't have saved.

Stopping crimes that should've happened.

Helping heroes who weren't helped originally…

Every action was a stone dropped in a river.

The ripples were now becoming waves.

Damian Drops to His Knees

The fire in his chest flickered uncontrollably.

Sun Breathing steadied him—but barely.

He pressed one hand to his forehead.

"What else changed…?" he whispered.

What villains escaped early?

What heroes died late?

What events shifted because he existed?

He stopped the Talons early.

He crippled the Court of Owls.

He changed Barbara's fate by making her walk again.

He saved Aqualad from death — even though the timeline said he should've died.

He thought about the villains he killed secretly while the League of Assassins still claimed him.

Names that weren't supposed to be dead yet.

And now…

Doomsday — the monster that kills Superman — was arriving early.

A cold sweat ran down Damian's back.

He whispered the thought he never wanted to say aloud:

"…I broke the timeline."

Toothless Senses His Fear

A shadow swooped down.

A soft thump landed beside him.

Toothless nudged Damian's shoulder with his snout, purring worriedly.

Damian forced a smile and touched the dragon's head.

"I'm okay, bud. Just… processing."

Toothless didn't believe him for a second.

The dragon curled his tail around Damian's leg — protective, grounding him.

The System Speaks

A soft ding echoed in his mind.

SYSTEM WARNING:

TIMELINE INSTABILITY DETECTED.

CAUSE:

USER ACTIONS HAVE ALTERED MULTIPLE KEY EVENTS.

CONSEQUENCE:

DOOMSDAY ARRIVAL ACCELERATED.

MISSION UPDATE:

ENSURE THE SURVIVAL OF SUPERMAN AND THE JUSTICE LEAGUE.

TIME REMAINING:

14 DAYS.

Damian swallowed hard.

"…I know."

Another message appeared:

SYSTEM ADVICE:

THE TIMELINE CANNOT BE RESTORED.

ADAPT.

SURVIVE.

PROTECT.

Damian's stomach sank.

This wasn't a game anymore.

There was no "canon" to rely on.

No script to predict.

The universe that had once been familiar…

Was now unknown.

Damian's Panic Turns Into Resolve

Damian stood slowly, fists clenched, breathing steady.

He looked out over Gotham — his messy, broken, beloved city.

If the timeline was shattered, then he couldn't rely on foreknowledge.

He'd need skill.

He'd need power.

He'd need allies.

And above all—

He'd need to save Superman.

Because if Kal-El fell early…

Everything fell.

"Fine," Damian whispered.

"Bring him. Bring Doomsday."

Toothless growled supportively.

Damian smirked.

"We'll adapt.

We'll survive.

We'll protect everyone."

Then his eyes narrowed, burning with that Sun-Breathing fire:

"And if fate wants a fight—

I'll break fate, too."
