Lilian's POV
Augusto ended the call, his final words carrying an icy threat that made my blood run cold.
I stared at my phone, anxiety gnawing at me as I worried about what my father might do next in his desperate hunt for money.
That's when Augusto's warning finally sank in.
My father owed a crushing amount of debt, and I represented his only lifeline.
He wouldn't just disappear quietly. He'd come crawling back within days, guaranteed.
But Augusto had mentioned that my father hadn't approached him again. So where was he turning now?
The more I considered it, the more panic seized my chest.
Without hesitation, I dialed my father's number.
"Lilian sweetheart, what a surprise," my father answered cheerfully. The unmistakable sound of shuffling cards and clinking chips filled the background.
I frowned, bewildered. Since when did my father gamble?
He'd never shown interest in cards before. And with his mountain of debt, where had he found money to throw around at a card table?
