Jenifer's POV
"What happened to Serena today cannot be dropped," I declared, making it clear there would be no negotiation.
I shifted my attention to Ms. Gabriel. "Please call Romano over. He needs to apologize to Serena. If he won't, I'll have no choice but to contact his guardian through legal channels and pursue this matter fully."
My unwavering position clearly frustrated Reed, who snapped impatiently. "Jenifer, enough already. Don't let being called 'aunt' fool you into thinking you're actually her family. Have you forgotten you're an orphan? Romano and I are the only family you have. How can you pick some stranger over your own son?"
A stranger? If he knew who I really was, I'd leave him just for saying that, I thought bitterly.
"Stranger or not, I'm Serena's guardian now, which makes her my responsibility. Even if Romano is my child, I need to hold him accountable when he does wrong. Wouldn't you agree?" I responded.
