Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Investigating Her Origins

The pale sunlight slanted in, shining through the car window onto the young girl's translucent, white face.

She seemed to still be savoring the lingering feelings; the smile remained, akin to an elegant white lotus, pure yet laced with a subtle sense of mist and charm.

"You seem to be in a good mood," Keane Lowell spoke.

Claire Prescott came to her senses and returned to her usual composure.

"Not bad, seeing Aunt Maddie feels like meeting an old friend, giving me a warm feeling."

Aunt Maddie...

Quite affectionate, indeed.

Keane Lowell smiled lightly, "How so?"

"Aunt Maddie is very beautiful, and she is gentle and kind. Her works accompanied my entire childhood, and she is a star that both my mom and I like."

As she spoke, the young girl couldn't help but reveal a hint of infatuation in her eyes.

That expression was entirely absorbed by him.

Once in the streets, he had personally seen the youthful Claire; back then, she was wearing a middle school uniform, gazing at Madeline White on the big screen at the mall, unable to move.

At that time, his car was parked just a meter or two in front of her.

Even though the pedestrian light had turned red, the young girl still stood on the crosswalk.

For reasons unknown, he didn't urge her along.

The young girl's eyes were clear and pure, her enthralled gaze mixed with threads of yearning.

When she returned to her senses, her gaze slowly fell on his privacy glass window. She politely bowed to thank him and then quickly returned to the safety of the sidewalk.

Later, he hadn't expected that because of an unintentional glance in the bustling crowd, when they met again, he recalled they had met before.

And now, he could clearly see what it was like for the young girl to like someone.

Infatuation, so excited she would lose composure, unable to hide a smile...

At this moment, Claire turned her head, looking at his profile and said, "I didn't expect Aunt Maddie to be your mother; you don't look alike at all."

"Is that so." Keane Lowell replied leisurely.

"But when you look closely, I think your ears are somewhat similar."

She spoke with particular seriousness, as if she had carefully observed him, inexplicably making his ears feel slightly warm.

Seeing the man not respond.

The car merged onto the main road, and the traffic outside began to increase.

Claire didn't bother him further, quietly resting back against the seat.

...

Arriving at Sinclair Apothecary.

Claire called out to him, "Mr. Lowell, please wait for me a moment, I'm going in to get some medicine for Aunt Maddie."

After speaking, she hurriedly got out of the car.

Hearing how she called him "Mr." felt incredibly polite yet distant, as if she had truly wiped away their past and agreements.

Keane Lowell watched her light figure with deep eyes, reached out to unbuckle his seatbelt, and followed her out of the car.

Upon entering the clinic, he saw the little doctor skillfully taking medicine from the cabinet, weighing it with care, meticulously mixing various herbs together, packaging them with paper, sealing it up and handing them over.

He took out a card from his pocket, placing it on the counter.

Claire pushed it back, "No charge."

After a moment of silence, he asked, "What do you want?"

It implied he could give her anything she wanted.

Claire smiled and said, "What I wanted I've already gotten from Aunt Maddie."

"..." Keane Lowell recalled her asking for a hug from his mother.

The young girl's thoughts were simple; a hug could satisfy her, while he hadn't even touched a fingertip of hers.

However, no matter—they had time.

At this time, Tiger came over, looking at her in surprise, "Sister Claire, aren't you off today."

"I came to get some medicine."

Tiger glanced at the dignified man by the counter and suddenly remembered something, "Oh right, Sister Claire, a man came looking for you today, named Finn or something..."

Forgot the exact name, only remembered he shared the same surname.

Claire guessed, "Finn Prescott?"

Tiger clapped his hands, nodding, "Yes, that's him."

Upon hearing this, Claire's brows lowered involuntarily, her pure, elegant face instantly darkened.

She didn't continue to ask why Finn came looking for her because she knew his purpose was just to take her back to Valoria, which she absolutely did not want to return to.

Realizing Keane Lowell was still there, Claire came back to herself, instructed, "Drink one dose of medicine a day; Chinese medicine is bitter, but good medicine tastes bitter. Aunt Maddie can pinch her nose to drink, it would be more bearable, best prepare some candy for Aunt Maddie."

Every word was detailed and considerate, as if afraid her Aunt Maddie would suffer even slightly.

Keane Lowell held the medicine and said, "Okay."

"Then... Mr., take care."

...

Keane Lowell had just returned to the car when he received a message from Assistant Cheney.

[Madam is investigating Miss Prescott's background]

As if already expecting it, his eyes remained unaffected; he replied: [Give her all the information]

The afternoon sun was strong and then faded, gradually turning gray with the passage of time...

The city's lights illuminated the night.

Keane Lowell sat at his desk working.

The phone notification sounded one after another.

Picking up the phone for a glance, the lit screen showed a message from the little doctor.

[Health Care List.pdf]

[This is a health care list I wrote for Aunt Maddie based on her physical condition.]

Health care was just a casual mention by his mother; unexpectedly she took it to heart and created a document with such care.

Keane Lowell stared at the screen for a long time, forwarded her WeChat contact to Madeline White, attached a sentence: [Claire WeChat.]

Then forwarded the document along with it.

Similarly, attached a sentence: [Claire wrote a health care list specifically for you based on your physical condition.]

Soon, Madeline White replied.

Maddie: [I really like this child Claire; whether she belongs to the Prescott Family or not, I want her as a daughter-in-law, so put in more effort.]

Seeing this message, Keane Lowell smiled.

Is it something she can have just because she wants it?

That person is not someone easily taken.

Maddie: [Be gentler to the girl, put away the cold and indifferent side you show in the business world; I'm waiting for your good news.]

...

On the other side.

After adding Madeline White on WeChat, Claire contained her excitement, chatted passionately for a while, told her she was her fan, and mentioned she had watched all her film works...

As they chatted, she gradually realized she had overlooked one issue.

Madeline White was not just Madeline White; she was also Keane Lowell's biological mother.

Shouldn't she be slightly more reserved?

Originally thought that with Keane Lowell's family background, his family tradition should be very strict, but his mother was so amiable and still the famous Madeline White; in the future...

Claire tossed the thought of in-law relations out of her mind, turned over on the bed, wrapped herself in the quilt, and sent a reply: [Aunt Maddie, it's almost ten thirty, please take care of your health and rest early.]

[Goodnight.jpg]

Maddie: [Got it, kiss.jpg]

Seeing this kiss emoji, her heart felt as if it was filled by something.

The day's events were full of enchantment, her mood seeming to have not fluctuated so much in a long, long time.

Yet, it seemed like she forgot something...

As she thought about it, she suddenly recalled that she originally planned to invite Keane Lowell to dinner today...
