Chapter 9 - Semi Finals

next few rounds passed

Round 7: Sheik Vs Mega Man

Winner: Sheik

Apparently, the reason there were two Zeldas was that Sora didn't know Sheik and Zelda were the same person, so he picked one from a different timeline

Round 8: Chrom Vs Mr Game & Watch

Winner: Mr Game & Watch

Round 9: Luigi Vs Ness

Winner: Luigi.

He accidentally made Ness Tip

The stadium lights dimmed for a moment as the announcer (Sora, who still wasn't entirely sure how he ended up with this job) shuffled through his cue cards.

"AND THAT CONCLUDES THE PRELIMINARIES! Moving on to the Semi–Finals…"

The crowd roared. Confetti cannons misfired. One even hit Bowser in the face. Nobody questioned it.

---

Winner Wing

Pit leaned against the railing, wings fluttering nervously as he looked around at the remaining fighters.

The 8 Semi-Finalists:

Pit

Wario

Lucina

Meta Knight

Red

Sheik

Mr. Game & Watch

Luigi

Viridi pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Eight combatants left. Four will make it. I swear, this bracket is going to kill me before Chaos Kin ever could."

Palutena giggled.

"Ohhh hush. It's exciting! Besides—" She hugged Pit from behind. "My little angel is already making it farther than most!"

Pit coughed, face red.

"P-please don't say that in front of everyone…"

Wario was sobbing happy tears again. "WAH! Semifinals! Wario number one! Wario number OOOOONE!"

Mr. Game & Watch made a blip-blip sound that somehow translated to,

"Your luck is statistically impossible."

Luigi was in the corner hyperventilating into a paper bag.

"I did NOT mean to make Ness trip! I swear I didn't!! Mama mia they're gonna think I did it on purpose—"

Lucina gently patted his shoulder.

"No one is accusing you. …Probably."

Meta Knight floated silently, cape swishing dramatically despite there being no wind.

His eyes glowed yellow, then narrowed.

"Half of you will fall."

Wario pointed at him. "See? HE gets it!"

Sheik walked past, stretching her fingers.

Pit blinked. "So… uh… why are there two Zeldas anyway?"

Sheik froze, then sighed heavily.

Sora's voice crackled over the PA system:

"Uh—just a reminder! We accidentally invited Sheik and Zelda separately because I didn't know Sheik was Zelda. My bad!"

Sheik put her face in her hands.

"I'm still not over this…"

Wario whispered to Pit, "If they fight in the finals, we're gonna need therapy."

Pit blinked as the holographic bracket finished spinning.

"Wait—Dr. Mario also won the last round. Why isn't he fighting?"

Dr. Mario adjusted his head mirror as he packed up his doctor's bag.

"Oh, I got called into the Mushroom Kingdom General Hospital. Emergency shifts. I told Sora I had to leave, and he excused me from the next round."

Palutena slowly turned her head, realization dawning.

"…That actually explains why there was no Round 11."

Viridi squinted at him. "So you just… dropped out? After winning?"

Dr. Mario shrugged. "Medical emergencies don't wait for tournament brackets. Besides, I already patched up half the roster today. I'm basically doing two jobs."

Pichu, still perched on his shoulder with a lollipop, nodded vigorously.

Wario raised a brow. "Waaait, so if you had stayed… who would YOU have fought?"

The hologram flickered for a moment—

BRACKET RECALCULATING…

BRACKET ERROR: PARTICIPANT REMOVED

BYPASSING…

It then returned to the eight remaining fighters.

Pit chuckled awkwardly. "Guess Smash itself didn't know either."

Sora's voice echoed from the announcer booth:

"Uh—ignore that! Anyway! THE SEMI-FINAL FIRST ROUND MATCHES ARE—!"

The giant screen exploded with light:

Mr. Game & Watch vs Red

The entire room collectively whispered: "Oh no…"

Wario vs Luigi

Luigi froze. Wario froze.

Wario whispered, "Traitor battle…"

Meta Knight vs Lucina

Even Lucina's eye twitched. "…Of course."

Pit vs Sheik

Pit's wings drooped. "Oh come on! I just healed!"

Phosphora elbowed him playfully. "Hey, at least she's cute."

Palutena glared.

Viridi glared harder.

Pandora gave a thumbs-up.

Pit silently regretted saying anything.

The names spun again, assigning order:

Round 1 – Mr. Game & Watch vs Red

Round 2 – Wario vs Luigi

Round 3 – Meta Knight vs Lucina

Round 4 – Pit vs Sheik

Sora shouted: "FIRST ROUND BEGINS IN FIVE MINUTES—FIGHTERS, REPORT TO THE STAGE!"

Red cracked his knuckles.

Mr. Game & Watch let out a "beep-boop" that somehow sounded ominous.

Everyone else prayed quietly for Greninja's safety.

The first match of the semifinals was finally beginning.

Mr. Game & Watch and Red stepped onto the Kongo Jungle platform—barrels, ropes, and a giant angry jungle aesthetic included.

For once, Red actually spoke before the fight.

He adjusted his cap, looked at the 2D enigma standing opposite him…

and said four words:

"You are an Apex."

Even Mr. Game & Watch tilted his head at that one—flatly.

The buzzer sounded.

FIGHT!

Red immediately threw a Master Ball.

Everyone in the Winner Wing leaned forward.

The ball cracked open—

Mewtwo floated out, glowing with psychic fire.

Wario's jaw hit the floor.

Pit choked on the apple he was eating.

Viridi facepalmed. "Of COURSE he pulled a legendary."

Palutena folded her arms. "Master Balls should NOT be legal."

Phosphora shrugged. "It's Smash. NOTHING is legal."

Back on the Stage

Mewtwo's eyes flashed.

Mr. Game & Watch didn't hesitate—he beeped, squeaked, and instantly flattened into a parachute to dodge a Psystrike.

The psychic blast exploded the center platform.

Red shouted like a general commanding an army:

"Mewtwo—Pressure Zone!"

A ring of psychic force blasted outward.

Mr. Game & Watch… slid under it like a piece of paper caught in the wind.

He dinged his bell hat.

Then pressed Side-B.

Everyone in the Winner Wing held their breath.

The Judge Hammer Appears…

Mr. Game & Watch's hammer rose.

The number flickered.

6… 3… 8… 2…

Red's eye twitched.

Palutena whispered, "…No way."

The number froze on—

9

The hammer dropped.

BOOM

A shockwave blasted Mewtwo straight into the upper blast zone, vaporizing him in light.

He was gone. Instantly.

Even Red blinked.

In the Winner Wing, Pit screamed:

"HOW DOES A 2D MAN KILL A LEGENDARY WITH A MALLET?!"

Wario started crying again, but for different reasons.

Lucina's jaw dropped. "…Those odds are impossible."

Dr. Mario walked by eating a salad. "Not impossible. Just Smash."

Back on Stage

Red didn't panic.

He calmly swapped Pokémon.

"Charizard, go."

A roar shook the whole jungle.

Charizard flew upward and Flare Blitzed.

Mr. Game & Watch instantly turned into a cranky trampoline.

Charizard bounced.

Then fell.

Through the stage.

And died.

Two Stocks vs One Stock

Red sent out Ivysaur.

Mr. Game & Watch turned into an octopus.

Pit: "IVYSAUR IS DEAD."

Ivysaur: is dead.

Red didn't even throw this one.

He just placed Pikachu down with a resigned sigh.

Pikachu sparked.

Mr. Game & Watch pulled out a bucket.

Pikachu hesitated.

Pit whispered, "Oh no… oh NO—"

Pikachu used Thunder.

Mr. Game & Watch caught it.

One…

Two…

Three…

FULL BUCKET.

Mr. Game & Watch waddled closer.

Red's eyes widened. "Pikachu, RUN—"

BLAST

The bucket released a giga-laser of doom.

When the smoke cleared…

Pikachu was halfway across Kongo Jungle.

Red was sitting on the floor.

The announcer's voice boomed:

"GAME!"

Winner: Mr. Game & Watch!"

Pit just stared at the screen, traumatized.

"…That 2D man is a monster."

Wario hugged Luigi. "WAH, I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT HIM."

Lucina folded her arms. "If fate demands it… I refuse."

Palutena raised a finger. "Remember children—never underestimate a creature who has no bones."

Viridi nodded wisely. "Especially if they're shaped like a public restroom sign."

Red sighed as he called back his Pokèmom. "You are an Apex no doubt".

Sora summoned a Healing ring, like in the Pokècenter in Red world, he put his Pokèmom there and they all were back to health and Alive, as he left.

Red returned to the Winner Wing a few minutes later, stepping out of the healing ring as calmly as if he had just finished a light jog… not effortlessly losing a match against a 2D primordial being.

Everyone stared at him.

Even Meta Knight.

Even Mr Game & Watch's remaining flat soul particle was still drifting upward in the background.

Red exhaled, rubbing the back of his head."…He's stronger than he looks."

Pit whispered to Palutena. "Wasn't he the one who one-shot him?"

Palutena whispered back without blinking. "Yes. But Red being polite is more terrifying."

Even Lucina was sweating. "I now understand why Chrom and Robin told me never to fight any version of him alone."

Wario shivered so hard his moustache curled in reverse. "Waaa… that boy fights like he owes Arceus money."

Viridi crossed her arms, judging yet impressed. "You call me destructive? That kid is like if nature itself decided to grind XP."

Lucina glanced over at Red, still trying to process what she'd witnessed on the Kongo Jungle stage.

She adjusted her tiara slightly, then asked, "Earlier… before the match started. You told Mr. Game & Watch he was an 'Apex.' What did you mean by that?"

Red didn't look away from the screen. He just folded his arms, thoughtful and calm as always.

"In every world," he explained, "there's something—or someone—at the very top. The strongest existence born from that reality. In mine, that's Arceus, the creator. The first. The one above all Pokémon."

He pointed toward the stage, where Mr. Game & Watch was hopping cheerfully, completely unaware of the existential weight being discussed.

"In his world," Red continued, "he is the Apex. The original being of 2D space. A primordial existence. That's why I said I'd lose. It wasn't really a fight—more like standing in front of a natural disaster."

Lucina stared, wide-eyed. "So you're saying he's… basically a god?"

"Pretty much," Red nodded. "A flat god, but still a god."

Wario shuddered from across the room. "Wah… so glad I didn't fight the pancake demon."

Pit thought for a moment, tapping his chin. "Our universe has one too, I think."

Palutena instantly stiffened. "Pit, don't mention O.T.G so casually."

Lucina blinked. "O.T.G…?"

Viridi crossed her arms and answered matter-of-factly. "O.T.G stands for the One True God. Capital O, capital T, capital G. Our boss. The big one. The guy who wrote the Bible in our world."

Lucina stared at them, trying to process that information. "Your… actual God is real?"

Phosphora shrugged. "Yeah. We're like… middle management."

Pit nodded helpfully. "I'm basically an intern."

Palutena shot him a glare. "You are not an intern—You're a highly valued courier with divine authorization!"

Viridi muttered, "Intern."

Wario popped a garlic clove into his mouth. "Wahaha… your universe HR must be wild."

Red didn't react much—he simply took out a cloth and cleaned Charizard's Poké Ball. "In my world, our god is a Pokémon shaped like a llama. This doesn't even crack my top ten weirdest things today."

Lucina sighed. "I… feel like I need a diagram."

Round 2 final started after the small break

Both of them stepped onto the stage, which had been selected for the Rainbow Cruise.

Round 2 – Wario vs Luigi — Rainbow Cruise

The rainbow-colored ship glided gently across the sky as the platform settled.

Clouds drifted below. The music kicked in.

The crowd leaned forward.

Wario cracked his knuckles and grinned, stomach rumbling like a warning.

Luigi, meanwhile, adjusted his gloves nervously.

Luigi: "M-maybe we can talk this out…?"

Wario: "WAAHAHA! No talk! Only gold coins for Wario!"

The announcer's voice echoed:

"THREE!"

"TWO!"

"ONE!"

"GO!"

And they launched at each other.

---

Meanwhile, back in the winner's ring…

Pit watched the screen intensely. "Luigi's in trouble."

Viridi raised an eyebrow. "Because Wario's strong?"

Pit shook his head. "Because Luigi's stage luck is terrible. Rainbow Cruise is basically a speedrun with gravity!"

Phosphora snorted. "Oh yeah. I still remember when he tried to jump that one gap and—"

Everyone in the winner's wing winced simultaneously.

Pandora burst out laughing. "He missed the platform by like two feet! Two! How does anyone do that!?"

Lucina tapped her chin. "But statistically, Luigi is much faster and has better aerial mobility. He should—"

Luigi immediately tripped on a moving platform on-screen.

Lucina paused. "…Oh."

---

Back on the stage…

Luigi scrambled to his feet just as Wario flew in spinning like a mad blender.

Wario Waft incoming.

Luigi's eyes widened. "Oh no—no No NO NO—!"

Wario let it rip.

The explosion sent Luigi blasting upward like a green missile.

KO!

The crowd erupted into chaotic cheers and horrified laughter.

---

Winner's Wing Reaction

Pit blinked. "Wow. That was fast."

Palutena sipped tea calmly. "Wario's bodily functions are a top-tier weapon. Never underestimate his digestive divinity."

Viridi gagged. "Please never say that sentence again."

Wario strutted proudly into the winner's section a moment later, hands on hips.

Wario: "WAAHAHA! Wario moves to semis! Who's next?!"

He froze when he saw Meta Knight sharpening Galaxia in the corner.

Wario slowly lowered his hands.

"…Wario hopes it's not him."

---

Next Match Approaches…

The holographic display flickered again.

ROUND 3: META KNIGHT VS LUCINA

Stage: Halberd

Lucina took a breath, tightened her grip on Falchion, and stepped toward the tunnel.

Pit called out, "Hey Lucina—good luck!"

Lucina smiled faintly. "I'll need it."

Meta Knight hovered silently beside her, cape fluttering. "…Prepare yourself."

Round 3 — Meta Knight vs. Lucina

Stage: Halberd

The platform shimmered into existence above the drifting sails of the Rainbow Cruise. Lucina and Meta Knight both materialized, blades drawn, the wind whipping around them as the ship drifted through the sky.

Lucina exhaled. "So… your home turf, then. Definitely an advantage for you."

Meta Knight gave a courteous bow. "Perhaps. This is my ship… but I shall not use the secret passage."

Lucina paused. "Secret passage?"

Meta Knight said nothing—just stared.

Lucina tilted her head, confused. "...What secret passage?"

She leaned forward, touching a panel on the deck.

Click.

The floor instantly snapped open.

Lucina fell straight through.

Then through the next panel.

And the next.

And the next.

"—Wha—WAIT—THIS ISN'T—!"

THUD!

She dropped out the bottom of the ship, screaming as the KO blast line swallowed her whole.

K.O.

The crowd erupted in chaos.

Meta Knight just sighed.

"…I mentioned the passage."

Meanwhile, in the Winner Wings…

Everyone stared at the screen, frozen.

Lucina's silhouette was still falling somewhere off-screen on an endless loop, as if the replay didn't know how to handle what just happened.

Pit blinked several times. "…What just happened?"

Palutena slowly adjusted her glasses—even though she didn't wear glasses. "I… I think we just witnessed a speedrun."

Viridi squinted at the timer on the screen. "No, that wasn't a speedrun. That was a glitch-less Any% world record."

Wario crossed his arms. "Waaah… Meta Knight didn't even fight her! He just—he just stage-doored her!"

Meta Knight came walking back in silently, cape fluttering behind him like he just finished filing paperwork instead of a fight.

Lucina limped in a few seconds later, covered in dust and pride damage. "I am never trusting a masked swordsman again."

Chrom, still in the loser's area, called from the back, "Welcome to the club!"

Lucina glared at the floor. "There were four secret doors. Four."

Meta Knight bowed politely. "I warned you."

"No, you said 'a door.' Singular!" Lucina snapped. "Not—NOT A MULTI-LEVEL DEATH TRAP!"

Pit leaned over to Palutena. "So uh… does that count as a legit win?"

Palutena shrugged. "Rules didn't say you had to fight your opponent. Just beat them."

Viridi nodded, impressed. "Yeah, and she got beat. By architecture."

Wario shuddered. "Remind me never to go on that ship."

Meta Knight turned his mask slightly toward him. "There are six more rooms I didn't mention."

Wario fainted immediately.

Pit clapped his hands. "Welp! Guess that's Round 2 over! Who's next?"

The announcer voice boomed:

Round 4 — Pit vs Sheik

The announcement echoed through the Smash House, sharp and final.

"Round Four! Pit versus Sheik!"

Pit stood there for a moment, wings twitching slightly as he watched Sheik disappear toward the stage. Her words lingered in his head.

I wonder if you'll take more than 3% damage this time.

"…Was that trash talk?" Pit muttered.

Viridi snorted. "Oh yeah. That was absolutely trash talk."

Palutena adjusted her staff, calm but amused. "Sheik is fast, disciplined, and dangerous. Don't underestimate her."

Pandora leaned closer, smirking. "But do feel free to embarrass her."

Phosphora cracked her knuckles, electricity snapping between her fingers. "I give it ten seconds."

Pit sighed. "You girls are terrifying."

---

The Stage — Skyworld Ruins

Floating platforms drifted beneath an endless golden sky. Ancient pillars hovered in midair, cracked with divine runes that hummed softly with power.

Sheik appeared in a blur of motion, landing soundlessly on one of the platforms.

Pit descended from above, wings flaring as he touched down.

For a brief moment, neither moved.

Then—

Sheik vanished.

Pit barely had time to react before a sharp impact struck his side, followed by another, then another. Sheik reappeared behind him, daggers flashing as she struck with surgical precision.

Pit slid backward, boots scraping against stone.

Damage counter:

Pit — 1%

Sheik — 0%

Sheik paused, eyes narrowing just slightly.

"…You're sturdier than you look."

Pit rubbed the back of his head. "I get that a lot."

Sheik moved again, faster this time. Needles flew, explosions followed, and the battlefield became a blur of motion and smoke.

Pit blocked, rolled, deflected—then finally stopped retreating.

He straightened.

"Okay," he said gently, "my turn."

---

The Shift

A soft click echoed.

High above the stage, Palutena's eyes glowed faintly.

"One more seal loosened," she murmured.

Pit's wings spread fully, no longer gliding—flying.

Sheik's eyes widened for half a second.

That was all Pit needed.

He shot forward like a comet, bow forming in his hand mid-flight. Arrows of light rained down, each one curving impossibly through the air.

Sheik dodged, flipped, vanished—

—and reappeared directly in front of Pit.

Too close.

Pit spun, wings snapping outward as he struck with the flat of his blade, sending her flying into a pillar. He followed instantly, grabbing her midair and redirecting the momentum into a controlled slam onto a platform below.

Damage counter:

Pit — 3%

Sheik — 47%

The stadium went silent.

From the Winner Wing, Wario slowly lowered his garlic.

"…Wa."

Sheik rolled to her feet, breathing heavier now. She straightened, composed despite the damage.

"So," she said calmly, "this is why they call you an angel."

Pit hovered a few feet above the platform, scratching his cheek sheepishly.

"I try not to make a big deal out of it."

Sheik smiled beneath her mask.

"Then finish it."

Sheik charged, everything she had poured into one final strike.

Pit met her halfway.

Light flared.

The impact echoed across the sky.

When it cleared, Pit stood at the edge of the platform, wings slowly folding as Sheik vanished below the blast zone.

K.O.

Back in the Winner Wing, the reaction was immediate.

Palutena clasped her hands. "Oh thank the heavens."

Viridi blinked. "Wait, did he still only take—"

Phosphora squinted at the screen. "—three percent."

Pandora burst out laughing. "That's not fair. That's illegal."

Sheik reappeared moments later via Sora's portal, landing gracefully and adjusting her stance. She looked at Pit, then gave a respectful nod.

"You live up to the legends."

Pit returned the nod, smiling. "You're really cool."

Sheik paused.

"…Thank you."

And then she walked off, dignity fully intact.

Semi-Final Results — Final Four

The screen updated.

Mr. Game & Watch

Warrio

Meta Knight

Pit

Sora's voice echoed through the arena, amused and excited.

"Well then! Looks like the finals are going to be fun."

Pit looked at the names… then felt arms wrap around him from all sides.

"This is going to be chaos," he said softly.

Palutena kissed his forehead.

Viridi grinned.

Phosphora crackled with excitement.

Pandora smiled like trouble incarnate.

Pit sighed contentedly.

"…Yeah. Heaven."
