Chapter 2 - Reality In Disguise

He stood a few steps away from the door, his hand reaching out to turn the handle. Each movement of his was guided by will and curiosity, the urge to discover whatever lurked within — regardless of whether it be danger or joy. His fingers wrapped around the handle one after the other ,and then began to pull after the twist. Before his gaze could pierce through the crack he felt a repulsive force pushing against his body ; his skin felt it as the wind yet his soul experienced a cold breeze that trembled his resolve. With each creak of the door the intensity grew at an unprecedented rate. Slowly the chill turned physical and ran down his spine — tempting the body to collapse. Despite the given warnings he still proceeded to open it, his hand now moving instinctively . Once a big enough crack for his vision to invade was made, his mind fell in a trance that not even touch could pull him out of. He began feeling burdened by unseen forces as if demons had decided to rest upon his shoulders ; rooting him to the floor below and restraining his movements. With his body bound to the floor and his consciousness stolen by whatever lurked within, it was as if he was being forced to witness whatever it is that was occurring in that room. It refused to relieve him, even when his body began trembling and his breathing rate increased rapidly.

Within his mind confusion thrived — a mixture of awe and worry. He couldn't comprehend the feelings his body was experiencing , he couldn't even find the source of the stimulation since what laid in front of him was nothing but an average looking dark room. His mind broke a threshold, accessing spiritual sensory and perceiving all forces at once. He could no longer control his body nor stand firmly without any shiver . Then something happened, a figure made of light materialized in the middle of the darkness ; a contrast to its surroundings that would also be an addition to his confusion. The appearance of the figure nearly drove him mad, implementing an overwhelming dose of shattered memories into his mind merged with the emotions that those moments carried. This much information entering the brain was more than enough to rupture it, to heighten its temperature to a point of zero function — yet he persisted. It was not smooth but horrid, somehow he had managed to retract both arms to cover his head but it did nothing. The excessive sensory input combined with the unprecedented flow of information into his mind was too much for any human to bear, yet he withstood it with the highest of difficulties. A scream erupted from his throat, spanning the entire space in an instance and echoing like a demon's screech during exorcism. He could sense everything, even the echo of his own scream added to the horrific experience once it reached his ears. His brain failed to filter anything out and so he ended up experiencing it all at once : the past, conversations, lighting, screams, the wind, etc. Until it came to an abrupt stop.

His brain tried to recover yet the lurking fragments made it hard to focus, he could still feel the burdens pressing down his body yet he attempted to move. Despite all that pain, despite the suffering and risk of death he still wanted to see more of those fragments ; so he dragged himself to the figure, hoping that it would share more or at least speak. To him it seemed like the source of information, the answer to all his questions and even his only hope. It was not long before he began to regret his decision, because once he got closer, it ran. Somehow a hallway had been made for it to run across and the more he looked the more he thought his vision was flawed ; From his point of view, it seemed endless, an expanse that neither him nor the figure could span no matter how hard they tried. Yet it still gained distance, separating itself from him completely as if the hallway was stretching along with it. Each second he spent chasing it felt helpless, his resolve was nothing more than a flickering flame on a dying candle but he still kept pushing. Tears rolled down his cheeks — fear made flesh — and his feet lost their balance ; now he was left with no choice but to watch. He witnessed it disappear into the distance, his hope, his wishes and his dreams all gone in an instant. After all that suffering and hardship, he had gained nothing but more questions and greater damage to his brain. Darkness creeped in ( forthwith a stronger wind ) to wash away any traces of his spirit that remained. He watched as it devoured the surroundings, he felt the cold as it numbed his skin and he felt his spirit fade once the darkness devoured him whole.

Another example to prove that hard work does not always ensure success. In some cases, no matter what you do will lead you back to where you started. Fortunately he had accepted his fate, he stopped trying and gave in to the chilling darkness. Amidst his rest a voice sounded from a distance, his eyes immediately opened to view an entirely different world in front of him. Again it sounded , this time more clearly and closer. He searched for its source with his eyes until his gaze landed on the girl sitting across him. Her features were striking : neck-length corkscrew curls coloured crimson, golden eyes that radiated with the sun's energy, smooth and fair skin — unmodified by make-up— and lastly , the smile she had worn once she noticed his eyes were staring towards her. Her dress covered most of the ground, it was long and classy with the royal colours ( red and gold) scattered all over it.

" Afternoon sleepyhead, and if you have to ask again, no we're not there yet. " she spoke, her soft voice passing through his ears like calm water sent to cool his brain. He found comfort in her presence, so much so that he forgot about the earlier occurrences for a moment . Although her speech was fluent and heard, his brain still failed to comprehend, it only admired the softness in her voice for now. Slowly his senses returned to reality, the rumbling noise of horses returned to his ears and the interior of the carriage was present before his sight once more. After some delay he finally understood the utterance, then he answered in a sleepy tone once a few seconds had passed.

" And here i was thinking i would wake up once we're there, this journey is far longer than i anticipated "

His response brought her to chuckle before she could add a statement of her own. She sighed and turned her head to the side — looking outside the window . " Yeah,i did tell you though."
