Elena turned around, feeling shocked,she should have guessed it, why did she have to come back today? Why had she been so foolish to go out without carrying any cash with her? Now she was in deep trouble.
Juliet and Edward soon barged into the room. Cassy had a smug smile on her face.
"So you came back?? Edward asked her as he looked at the bag in her hands.
" Ain't you ashamed, sneaking in and out of your father's house like a thief? " he added.
"To say you could even go down from the balcony and climb back up, what are you? super woman??" Juliet voiced out.
Yeah, the always proper woman. Elena thought. She didn't even bother to look at the woman. She heard her father's voice.
"How could you?? How could you disappoint me so? Edward shook his in disappointment. "I thought you were quite matured and sensible, how could you pull such a stunt? And then you sneak back in to do what?"
Elena stood her ground stubbornly.
"I told you father, I told you that i wasn't interested in marriage, especially not to a guy i haven't met before, but you kept insisting, it's like i was made to always take the fall for your precious daughter " Elena voiced her thoughts bitterly.Maybe he would let her be afterall.
"Can I have a moment alone with Elena? He asked still looking at the stubborn girl. Juliet nodded before exiting the room with her daughter. Elena knew this tactic, it was a very familiar one, he must have understood that he had approached the matter in a wrong way, so he had decided to change his mode of operation now that he had seen that she wouldn't relent on her decision, she always knew him as a cunning man. He sat down on her bed, he looked at the bed him, " come sit down" he patted the the space beside him, reluctantly, she sat down with him.
He sighed deeply as if whatever he wanted to say next was too heavy for him,but he was just going to have to say it because she'd pushed him.
Edward looked at his daughter sitting next to him, this was his last card, if this method failed, he would have to force her or even tie her up before dragging her to Lucien's doorstep. Elena was very stubborn, just like her mother, handling her was a very hard task, he heaved heavily, this was really his last card.
" I know you've always wanted to know more about your mother, and I've always been reluctant to tell you anything, but my dear child, I can take you to a place where all your Mom's stuff were kept,I also happen to know where she is residing right now, I wonder if you value the memories you have of your mom enough to agree to marry lucien's son to get your hands on her stuff so that you could get to know her better, I can also take you to her, that's if you're interested?? Elena looked up at him in shock, was he threatening or bribing her?, so much for being a caring father, she rolled her eyes.
"I have everything about your mother, from her diary,her clothes to her pictures, her trophies, everything's with me" he said counted with a glint in his eyes.
Elena looked at him with clear eyes.
"So you'll only hand over all this things to me if i agree to marry the stranger.?
"It'll make a fine wedding gift, don't you think?". He asked to see her reaction, no ways on earth was he going to give her her mother's stuff before the wedding.
Elena smiled in self mockery.
"You know the only difference between myself and an orphan? She continued without waiting for his reply. " I know my parents,and I have a roof under my head that does not belong to an orphanage".She smiled, mocking him this time around.He had a bewildered look on his face when she raised her eyes to look at him.
"Why.... why would you say such a thing? His tone softened.
" Why wouldn't i say such a thing? Am i wrong for thinking like this? I only see you around when you need something from me, the other day, I heard your conversation with Cassy, you were telling her that you would hand over the company to her once she climbed twenty five next year because am too dumb to run a company, do you even know what I'm majored in? This time it was she who threw him a disappointed look when he blinked his eyes without denying her accusation.
" I've no problem if you feel Cassy is your only child, but don't try to make me do things by threatening me, I'm not afraid of threats instead, they excite me ". She walked to the bathroom, but then, she paused by the door.
" Who's my mother anyways, I thought I've none, afterall a good mother wouldn't run away from her child. She walked in.
