Chapter 41 - Chapter 41 — The Night Everything Changed

The storm rolled over the island that night, wind brushing against the windows of the Smith summer estate. Fiona had been restless the entire day—her back aching, her belly unusually heavy, and a strange pressure spreading downward with every step she took.

Liam noticed it immediately.

He had been hovering around her since morning, refusing to leave her side."Sit down for a bit," he urged as she walked slowly across the living room. "You look exhausted."

"I'm fine," she insisted, though even her voice trembled with discomfort. "Just… maybe the babies are heavy today."

But Liam didn't believe that. His eyes followed her every move, worry etched into his face like a permanent scar.

By evening, the uneasiness inside Fiona had turned into sharp ripples of pain.

A sudden tightness tore through her abdomen, stealing her breath. Her hand instinctively clutched the arm of the sofa.

"Fiona?" Liam rushed to her, panic instantly rising. This time she couldn't hide it.

"Liam… something's wrong."

Another wave of pain hit—deeper, stronger, unmistakable.

He felt his heart stop. "Are you—are you in labor?"

Her fingers dug into his arm as she nodded, sweat forming on her forehead."I—I think so… Liam, it hurts—"

He didn't wait for another word.

In seconds, Liam scooped her into his arms, shouting toward the hallway,"Someone bring the car! NOW!"

The entire Smith household burst into chaos—maids rushing, lights turning on, doors opening and closing. The storm outside rumbled as if echoing the urgency.

Fiona's breathing grew faster, each contraction closer than the last.

"Liam…" She gripped his shirt. "Don't leave me."

"I'm right here," he whispered, pressing his forehead to hers as he carried her down the stairs. "I'm not going anywhere. I promise."

By the time the car arrived, Fiona could barely speak, pain tightening her body in relentless waves.

Liam held her face gently. "Look at me. Focus on my voice."

She nodded weakly, tears gathering at the corners of her eyes.

They sped toward the island hospital, Liam holding her hand the entire way.

Her contractions came faster—three minutes apart now.

"Liam, it hurts… it hurts so much…" she whispered shakily.

He squeezed her hand. "I know, sweetheart. Just hold on for me. We're almost there."

Inside the car, the fear he hid in his eyes slowly turned into something fiercer—determination. He wasn't going to lose her. He wasn't going to lose their babies.

Not again. Not after everything.

As soon as they arrived, doctors and nurses rushed out with a stretcher.

"Mrs. Smith's labor has started early," Liam announced sharply.

Fiona reached for him, refusing to let go even as nurses tried to guide her onto the stretcher.

"I'll be with you the whole time," Liam promised, leaning down to kiss her trembling hand.

She nodded, finally letting the nurses take over as she was wheeled toward the delivery ward.

Her breaths were uneven, fast, full of fear—and hope.

Liam followed right behind, heart pounding, his mind echoing only one truth:

The babies were coming. And nothing—absolutely nothing—was going to take Fiona away from him.
