Chapter 16 - chapter 16 ( THE SHADOW AND THE HAND)

King's Landing — Jon Arryn's chambers

Late at night, the old Hand sat beside a dim candle, reading coded letters, trying to assemble the truth.

A whisper of air moved.

A presence appeared.

Not fully material…

not fully flesh…

something between worlds.

Jon Arryn froze.

"…So you are real."

The figure in the shadows didn't reply—until the Hand finally gathered the courage.

"Who are you? And why have you been protecting me?"

The voice that answered was calm, layered, like multiple tones stacked.

"I am a guardian.

Not of kings…

but of the one who will change everything."

Jon Arryn's eyebrows rose.

"Do you speak of Joffrey Baratheon?"

A quiet, almost amused breath escaped the darkness.

"No. Not him."

The Hand leaned forward.

"Then… who?"

Leo stepped slightly into the candlelight—just enough for the Hand to see a silhouette, a figure cloaked in shadows.

"The true king or queen is not here.

They are out there—training, preparing.

One is a bastard… and something far more."

Jon Arryn's veins froze.

"You mean Jon Snow?"

The shadow did not confirm.

The shadow did not deny.

Jon tried again.

"What do you mean 'something more'? What is he? Who guides him?"

Leo turned his head slightly, expression unreadable.

"That answer is not for today."

For one hour the Hand questioned him:

Who sent you?

Why protect me?

What threatens the realm?

Who will inherit the throne?

What is your loyalty?

Leo answered only what was necessary—

never the whole truth.

When Jon Arryn finally blinked—

the shadow was gone.

Vanished.

As if he had never been there.

THE NEXT DAY — THE SHADOW STRIKES BACK

Littlefinger's assassins had been hunting Leo all night.

They never returned.

One was found with a crushed throat.

One drowned in a water barrel.

One simply… disappeared.

On Littlefinger's desk, placed with impossible precision, was a single black feather.

And carved into the wood:

"STOP HUNTING ME."

Baelish's smile cracked for the first time.

CERSEI'S PARANOIA — MANIPULATED

Leo planted false clues all across the city:

northern-style blades in Flea Bottom

forged letters implicating House Stark agents

shadows moving on rooftops where he never stepped

Cersei became obsessed.

Her new belief:

"Ned Stark is sending spies to kill my family."

This redirected her attention entirely away from Leo

and straight onto the coming political disaster.

Exactly as the system wanted.

THE EASTERN PATH — BEGINNING OF THE DAENERYS ARC

With King's Landing suitably destabilized, Leo touched the Teleport Stone.

He carved the destination on flat rock:

"Vaes Dothrak — unseen ridge."

The runes glowed.

Light swallowed him.

And he appeared in Essos.

Hot winds.

Endless plains.

The scent of horses and smoke.

Daenerys Targaryen—young, uncertain, fragile—was there with Viserys, preparing for the golden-crown disaster that would define her.

Leo watched from a cliff edge.

He had seen her only through a screen in the life before…

But now, seeing her in reality, vulnerable and radiant…

his chest tightened.

Crush.

Immediate.

Unavoidable.

The system chimed:

[NEW EMOTIONAL TAG DETECTED: "Romantic Interest — Daenerys Targaryen"]

Leo ignored it…

or tried to.

A DIFFERENT TIMELINE — KHAL DROGO FIGHTS BACK

In this altered timeline, things change:

Drogo does not marry her immediately.

He challenges the khal who tries to claim her.

Drogo kills him in single combat.

He takes his riders and becomes stronger—faster.

Daenerys is left protected but not owned.

She watches the Dothraki scatter before Drogo's shouting warriors.

She feels alone and afraid.

But someone else is watching her…

someone invisible…

someone who will soon become the most important person in her fate.

The system whispers:

"Your next mission:

Remove Viserys.

Protect Daenerys.

Shape her into the queen she must become."

This is where Leo's true destiny begins.
