Chapter 17 - 17: Dividing the Army into Three Routes

Seeing the fallen zombie about to get up again, Song Fei dared not hesitate any longer. With a flick of her wrist, the chain clicked open. Qiao Siqi and Zhou Yilu quickly closed in, opening the door wide. The girl didn't even wait for the door to open fully; seeing that the gap was big enough, she nimbly slipped in, the empty thermos she was still clutching making a crisp sound against the glass door.

The two doormen quickly closed the door again, and Song Fei locked it without saying a word.

Just as the lock was fastened again, the zombie that had risen again pounced and slammed hard into the tempered glass!

The glass door was suddenly smashed open, leaving a gap the width of a fist, and the naturally hanging chain lock was instantly snapped straight and taut!

Song Fei quickly braced himself against the impact, fearing the bicycle lock would actually break, while shouting to the other three, "Quick, find a chain lock! Or a broom or mop will do, hurry—"

The three men, having received their orders, rushed off and quickly disappeared into the depths of the densely packed display shelves, like three small fish leaping into the vast ocean.

 etc.

 Three?

While struggling against the zombies outside the door, Song Fei mentally counted on his fingers: Qiao Siqi, Zhou Yilu, the new beauty... Damn, where's Luogeng?

Song Fei's expression suddenly changed; it seemed he hadn't seen Luo Geng since he ran into the supermarket! But he clearly remembered that they had all run in together…

"Is the door not closed properly yet? I'm going to die!!!"

Thinking of Cao Cao makes Cao Cao scream.

Song Fei's heart, which had been in her throat, eased slightly. However, the sound clearly came from deep within the supermarket, distant and ethereal, making the heart-wrenching screams seem less tragic.

 Where are you?!

His response was met with an anxious Zhou Yilu.

 "Lao Gan Ma—"

Luo Geng's assessment was extremely accurate.

Seeing that his companions were about to go rescue Teacher Luo, and given his own powerful shouts, Song Fei's other half felt relieved. He guessed that there were probably a few zombies left in the supermarket that Luo Geng had run into.

The zombies outside were still relentlessly ramming the door, but their strength was no match for Song Fei's. Moreover, the supermarket's main entrance was not like the dormitory balcony sliding door; it was made of very sturdy tempered glass, so no matter how hard the zombies rammed, they would remain unharmed.

"Don't waste your energy," Song Fei said casually, looking at the other person through the glass. "Unless you bring a safety hammer, it's hopeless."

Song Fei knew the other person wouldn't understand what he was saying, but this pretentious banter strangely made him less afraid. It was as if the person next to him wasn't a zombie, but just a group of classmates having a fight.

Of course, the "classmate" didn't think so. It could see but couldn't reach, and kept nagging in its ear. The three combined made it more and more irritable, wishing it could bang on the door with its life.

Even though the glass door was sturdy, the constant thumping made Song Fei tremble with fear. In the end, his heart was in sync with the pounding of the door, pounding as if it were about to burst out of his chest at any moment.

 "Aren't you fucking tired?!"

Song Fei cursed, purely to vent his anger and also to bolster his courage.

The zombie classmate, who was about to crash into the door for the 101st time, suddenly stopped.

The sudden silence made Song Fei's eyes widen in surprise. So even mutated creatures bully the weak and fear the strong.

Encouraged, Song Fei unleashed a torrent of profanities, each one unique, in a 360-degree Thomas full spin!

At first, the zombie classmate just listened blankly. After about forty seconds, he suddenly took a small step back with his left leg and a small step back with his right leg, and slowly and stiffly reversed towards Song Fei.

In ancient times, Zhuge Liang debated with a group of Confucian scholars; today, Song is cursing zombies!

Song Fei was overjoyed and was thinking of using the same trick to consolidate his victory when the zombie that had retreated to about two meters stopped.

The next second, the zombies charged forward at an unprecedented speed!

Song Fei was devastated. Turns out, this guy wasn't a bully who preyed on the weak; he was just hot-blooded and impulsive!

 Thump—

The unprecedented impact sent Song Fei flying, and he fell to the ground, half of his body still numb!

The chains were taut with no room to maneuver, and one of the zombie's arms had already reached into the gap between the doors. Its whole body was desperately trying to squeeze in!

Song Fei was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan. Finally, she gritted her teeth, swung her Tai Chi fan open, and used it to block the gap in the door where the other party might bite her. At the same time, she firmly grasped the other party's hand and pushed it outward with force, along with his arm!

The zombie classmate's palms were very cold.

Song Fei's palms were very warm.

But even with all her passion, Song Fei couldn't heed the call of her heart and make the sacrifice of love. Seeing that her arm was almost completely pushed out, Song Fei forcefully pushed her shoulder, and the glass door slammed shut again!

In a flash, just as the door was tightly shut, Song Fei leaped upwards and hooked down the cotton curtain—he had noticed it unintentionally while their handshake was tense. In winter, thick cotton curtains like these are installed in teaching buildings, dormitories, and supermarkets, mainly to block the wind and keep warm. Someone had somehow managed to lift the supermarket curtain up; Song Fei gave it a sharp tug, breaking the hanging rope at the corner, and the curtain came tumbling down with a whoosh!

After finishing the right side, Song Fei did the same to the left side. Soon, the glass door was blocked by a military green cotton curtain, and he and his zombie classmate could no longer see each other so close.

About a minute later, the banging on the door gradually subsided.

Song Fei lay down on the ground and peeked out through a tiny crack. He saw that the zombie classmate seemed to have lost its target, looking around and sniffing things. Although it was still standing in the same spot, it did not continue to attack.

Amidst the still-intense smell of Sixgod, Song Fei, unusually, put his mind to work. He vaguely felt that sight and smell were the main triggers for zombie attacks; seeing or smelling a living person would instinctively drive them to attack and devour. As for hearing, they would react to it—for example, being attracted by a cell phone song or being shoved against a door by loud talking in the dormitory—but if they ultimately confirmed that the object wasn't a living person, they wouldn't attack. For instance, the cell phone that Qiao Siqi sacrificed itself continued to sing praises of Genghis Khan until the very end.

So now he lowered the curtain, so the zombies couldn't see him, and because of the floral water, they couldn't smell his scent. His mania gradually subsided, and he became like the other wanderers in the dormitory building.

Deep inside the supermarket, there's a section for various sauces.

Luo Geng had no idea why he had ended up in such a predicament—standing on the top shelf, using various glass jars and containers of beef sauce, mushroom sauce, chicken sauce, pasta sauce, and so on as weapons, he slammed them down on the faces of three zombies while hopping around on tiptoe, just like the little ballerina in a music box.

He clearly just wanted to get there sooner to find a tool to hold the door shut!

 Is being smart a sin?!

 "Luo Geng—"

Finally, Zhou's shouts echoed in the wind.

 "I'm here--"

Luo Geng vowed that the first thing he would do after being rescued was to give Zhou Yilu a big hug!

A familiar face finally appeared at the end of the shelf, and sure enough, it was Zhou Yilu at the very front. Without saying a word, he started waving his arms and legs to attract the attention of the three zombies!

Luo Geng was faster than the zombies, running towards his companions over the shelves, not caring how many bags of hot pot seasoning he kicked down along the way.

Three zombies arrived shortly after, and Zhou Yilu plunged his knife into the head of the first zombie!

Before he could even draw his knife, the zombies behind him charged forward, about to overtake his companions and devour Zhou Yilu!

Zhou Yilu remained calm and composed, seemingly confident of success!

Sure enough, a figure flew down from the sky and landed squarely on the zombie's neck. In the blink of an eye, Luo Geng's military dagger pierced the zombie's skull!

Meanwhile, Joschi's Swiss Army knife had already pierced the eye of the third zombie.

Zhou Yilu, who had finally retrieved a sushi knife, rushed over to give Johns the finishing touch.

Within a minute, the three zombies collapsed to the ground.

In a one-on-one fight, Luo Geng could only run, but in a three-on-three fight, he was instantly killed. Luo Geng had no idea when he and his companions had developed such perfect teamwork, or how their fighting prowess had quietly doubled, and...

"Miss, are you here to buy something at the supermarket?"

The first thing to do is give Zhou Yilu a hug or something, we'll see later.

The girl who suddenly appeared before him wore a serene blue wool coat over a white knit sweater, exuding youthful charm and pure innocence. Her black hair cascaded like a waterfall, her eyes shone like stars, her full breasts resembled infinity, and her face was breathtakingly beautiful! Luo Geng was at a loss for words; he felt as if his very soul was being stolen away!

"Um, my name is Luo Geng," Luo hurriedly pulled the military dagger from the zombie's head, and rushed to the beauty with a bright and enthusiastic smile. "I'm a junior in the mathematics department. Which department are you from, junior?"

The beautiful woman blinked blankly, and after a long while, she said, "Senior, what were you thinking, trying to pick someone up with a blood-dripping awl?"

Although it was a complaint, the woman's tone was so gentle and her voice so pleasant that Luo Geng was almost intoxicated.

Qiao Siqi and Zhou Yilu both facepalmed. No wonder they say men conquer the world, and women conquer men. A woman who can be both gentle and fierce, soft and hard, tender and shrewd, and even her insults are so scathing you almost want to hear them again—it would be a fucking injustice if such a creature didn't conquer the world!

"There's no blood now," Teacher Luo said, his military dagger now gleaming with oil, his smile never fading. His rough voice was as soft as a noodle. "Junior, what's your name?"

"Lin Dilei, School of Journalism and Communication." Lin Dilei didn't hesitate. After giving her name, she thought for a moment and then softly added, "The senior students over there at the main gate seem to be about to give out."

When Song Fei saw his three comrades return with girls, he almost cursed: "Did you go to find tools or make them yourself?!"

"Don't even mention it, those three who didn't escape were really tough to deal with!" Johns, who finished the fight in a minute, said without a shred of guilt, and hurriedly fastened the bicycle locks he had found.

 There were seven in total.

Zhou Yilu said, "These are the only ones we can find."

Song Fei breathed a sigh of relief: "It should be about right."

The situation had temporarily stabilized, which finally reminded Song Fei of the beautiful woman who had fallen from the sky. Moreover, while he was chatting with the zombie, he suddenly remembered that this was the girl from the School of Journalism and Communication who was holding up the sign at the sports meet. No wonder he felt like he had seen her somewhere before!

"Beautiful lady, what are you doing here..." Song Fei glanced at the empty thermos flask, now without its lid, still being held by the other woman, and felt a lot of pressure from the guesses that followed. "Out to get water?"

The water dispenser is right next to the supermarket; just a few steps to the right after you go out.

"Mm." Lin Dilei nodded naturally. Fortunately, she added three more words, "Five days ago."

Luo Geng was taken aback and squeezed through the crowd to ask, "So you've been in the washroom all these days?!"

Lin Dilei's face finally showed signs of exhaustion: "Luckily I locked the door quickly, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to wait for you. And luckily I brought some snacks in my bag. There was no hot water in the washroom, but there was still cold water."

Zhou Yilu glanced at the Cambridge bag slung across her shoulder, which could barely hold three textbooks, and couldn't help but exclaim in surprise, "You lasted five days with this little bit of stuff?!"

Lin Dilei lightly tossed her hair and smiled, "Perfect for losing weight."

Will women eventually rule the world?

 No.

Their goal is the stars and the sea!

"There shouldn't be any danger now, right?" Lin Dilei suddenly asked softly.

Luo Geng personally lifted the gap in the cotton curtain to observe outside: "No problem, it's safe for now."

Lin Dilei suddenly dropped the water bottle and ran away!

The remaining four male students looked at each other, puzzled.

Suddenly, Song Fei sprang to his senses and ran off as well!

Johns couldn't stop him, so he could only reach out and beckon to his retreating figure: "That girl went to the feminine hygiene products section, why are you chasing after her—"

Zhou Yilu suddenly grabbed Qiao Siqi's hand with such force that he almost broke his fingers.

Qiao Siqi yelled in pain, "What...you...are...doing...again!"

Zhou Yilu stared intently into his eyes, his voice slow and strained: "The ventilation window... seems to be over there."

Outside the ventilation window, at the edge of the roof.

The phone was still stubbornly playing music on the ground diagonally in front of me.

The original plan was not to sacrifice the phone, but the prolonged provocation had brought the zombies closer and closer to the roof with each attack, leaving no choice but to sacrifice the pawn to save the king.

The people on the roof wrapped their general's green cotton coats even tighter, but they were still very cold.

The window below is so close, yet it feels like it's a million miles away.

Qi Yan looked up at the hazy sky, feeling utterly exhausted.

Why don't you just jump down yourself, then go back to them with a smile? Anyway, it's getting c

old, let's all mutate together.
