Chapter 388 - Chapter 388 - The Conqueror's Dance

Location: The Crucible Grounds - Arena Floor

Time: Present Day - Tournament Finals

The arena fell silent as Grace Barlow and Cassia Ulfric stood across from each other on the cracked, scarred floor. The holographic banners flickered above them, displaying their names in bold, shimmering script. The air was thick with tension, a living thing that seemed to coil around the two fighters.

Kazimir Zelenko materialized on the massive screen, his digital form moving with exaggerated, theatrical energy. His body twisted and swayed, his hands gesturing wildly.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!" Kazimir shouted, his voice layered with electronic distortion. "Let's give it up for our finalists! First up, the charming wonder who baffled you all with her talent—the girl who made even the self-proclaimed 'strong wildlander' run for his mommy!"

He mimicked Michael Snovidenie's arrogant pose, his body stiff and theatrical. His expression shifted to one of exaggerated bravado, his chest puffed out, his chin raised. Then he clutched his midsection, his face contorting into a parody of pain. His body doubled over, his hand gesturing below the belt.

"WHOOPS! Must have hit a sensitive spot!"

The crowd erupted in laughter. Michael Snovidenie's face flushed with barely contained fury, his hands clenching at his sides. His voice carried a note of cold irritation.

"That insufferable—"

A spectator nearby chuckled, his voice carrying a note of amusement. "Man, that AI has no chill."

Michael's eyes blazed, but he said nothing.

Kazimir continued, his voice carrying a note of exaggerated enthusiasm. "This girl is proving that it takes action to know one's strength! She's a doer! Get it? A doer! Because she does things!"

The crowd's reaction was a mixture of groans and laughter.

"Seriously, is that some kind of joke?" one spectator muttered. "Because I still don't get it."

Another shrugged. "I think that's the point. He's supposed to be annoying."

---

Kazimir's attention shifted to Cassia, his voice dropping to a note of theatrical reverence. "And on the other side, we have the top breaker of all the deadbeats at Torrent base—the mysterious, the magnificent, the completely terrifying Cassia Ulfric!"

The Torrent trainees in the VIP section bristled, their hands moving in gestures of protest.

"Hey! We're not deadbeats!"

"Who is he calling deadbeats?!"

Cassia's voice cut through the noise, calm and measured. "It is a pleasure to be graced by your presence."

Grace's expression remained unchanged, her body relaxed, her gaze fixed on her opponent.

---

The signal flashed.

Cassia moved first, her body flowing with a fluid, feline grace. Her hips swayed, her feet shifting in a series of quick, deliberate steps. Her right arm arced forward, her fingers curled into claws aimed at Grace's chest. Her left arm followed, a sweeping strike aimed at Grace's thigh.

Grace's body reacted with inhuman precision. Her head tilted, her body twisting to avoid the first strike. Her leg shifted, her knee bending to evade the second. Her movements were economical, almost lazy, as if she had seen the attacks before they were thrown.

She's fast, Grace thought, her internal voice carrying a note of quiet assessment. But her movements are predictable. She telegraphs her attacks.

Cassia pressed forward, her strikes coming faster and more fluid. Her hips twisted, her leg arcing upward in a sweeping kick aimed at Grace's face. Her claws followed, a rapid succession of strikes aimed at Grace's midsection.

Grace's body moved with fluid grace, her defenses impenetrable. She ducked under the kick, her body twisting to avoid the claws. Her hand shot out, her palm connecting with Cassia's wrist in a precise counter.

The crowd watched with bated breath, their voices rising and falling with each exchange.

"Finally!" one spectator exclaimed, his voice carrying a note of relief. "A normal fight! No freaky glowing stuff!"

Another nodded in agreement. "Yeah, for once our brains won't be fried by all that weird energy nonsense. This is just good old-fashioned fist fighting!"

A third spectator leaned forward, his eyes wide. "Look at them go! They're like a well-choreographed dance!"

---

The VIP Section

Valerik leaned forward, his voice carrying a note of genuine admiration. "You show her, Grace! Did you see that? That's what's lacking at Jerkin base—everyone is all cozy with one another, all yes-men and bootlickers."

Jericho's voice was flat, bitter. "Well, if you were just placed somewhere you didn't know, with expectations from your family to perform and bring out the best of what you can do... trust me, trying to please others to get a footing isn't that surprising."

His hands moved in a gesture of quiet frustration.

"For years, my old man pressured me to do this and that. Even when the tasks were too much to bear, I had to act tough and do them over and over. It nearly broke me inside and out. But when I was trying to soothe those injuries, he wasn't there. Only when he sought to give me orders was he available. In my healing process, he was never there."

He paused, his voice dropping to a whisper.

"That's when I realized: the ones who claim to love you the most are often the ones who hurt you the deepest."

Valerik's expression shifted to one of awkward discomfort. "Sheesh, just giving out my opinion, buddy. Didn't mean you to start telling me your depressing childhood story."

Isha Patel's voice carried a note of quiet respect. "I think it's brave for him to speak out like that. Usually, he's the type who acts like everything is perfect, like nothing can touch him."

She mimicked a stiff, emotionless expression, her body rigid, her hands at her sides.

Nikolai Morozov let out a dramatic sigh, his voice carrying a note of mock sympathy. "What's this? The ever-so-serious Jerkin turned out to be such a crybaby!"

His hands moved in exaggerated gestures, mimicking someone wiping tears.

Brenna's voice carried a note of dry amusement. "It isn't so bad for one of them to start being human again. Those who stay stuck in their muscle-headed attitudes are the ones who end up empty-headed."

She reached out, her hand connecting with Nikolai's head in a sharp, cartoonish thwack. Nikolai's expression shifted to one of exaggerated pain, his hand flying to the spot.

"Ouch! What was that for?!"

Dhivya Rana's voice carried a note of sharp impatience. "Stop bickering with that idiot. There are other things that might be more important than your petty squabbles."

Nikolai's brow furrowed. "What could be more important than this?"

His gaze shifted, following Dhivya's eyes. He noticed Eugene Torrent, his gaze fixed on the arena below, his expression one of cold intensity.

What's so special about those Jerkin brats? Nikolai thought, his internal voice carrying a note of skeptical curiosity.

Dhivya's hands moved in a gesture of vague uncertainty. "I don't know. I guess we'll find out after this Crucible Grounds final is over."

Her gaze shifted, noticing something in the crowd below—figures in dark clothing, their movements deliberate, their eyes scanning the arena with cold precision.

The OSI are still here, she thought. Even after everything that happened.

Nikolai's voice dropped to a whisper. "Probably still not over yet for his dead—"

Dhivya's hand shot out, covering his mouth. Her voice carried a note of sharp warning. "Will you stop it?!"

She glanced at Eugene, still his attention fixed on the match, his expression unreadable. She let out a quiet sigh of relief, her body relaxing.

---

Michael Snovidenie's voice carried a note of dry amusement. "It seems neither of them is using that... energy. The strange stuff that girl used on me. They're just fighting like normal people."

Brenda's lips curved into a quiet chuckle. "It appears both ladies respect one another's ability. They decided to start out like that. It's something that is lacking nowadays with your new generation."

Michael's brow furrowed. "And what is that?"

Brenda's voice carried a note of quiet wisdom. "A share of sportsmanship."

---

Cassia's attacks grew faster, more fluid. Her claws arced through the air, each strike accompanied by a faint, crackling energy—like lightning trapped in amber. The air around her claws shimmered with a dark, soulless radiance, and the ground beneath her feet trembled with the force of her movements.

Grace's body responded with inhuman precision, her movements a blur of controlled motion. She ducked under a strike, her body twisting to avoid the follow-up. Her hand shot out, her palm connecting with Cassia's wrist in a precise counter.

The two fighters clashed, their bodies a blur of motion. The air around them crackled with energy, the ground beneath their feet trembling with the force of their exchange.

Cassia's right claw arced forward, aimed at Grace's chest. Grace's body twisted, the strike passing harmlessly by her side. Her own fist shot forward, aimed at Cassia's midsection.

Cassia's left claw arced forward, aimed at Grace's thigh. Grace's leg shifted, her knee bending to evade the strike. Her body moved with fluid grace, her defenses impenetrable.

The crowd watched with bated breath, their voices rising and falling with each exchange.

"This is incredible!" one spectator exclaimed.

"I've never seen anything like it!"

"They're like two dancers locked in a perfect rhythm!"

---

Cassia's claws moved with blinding speed, each strike aimed with cold precision. Grace's body moved with fluid grace, each dodge a work of art. The air around them crackled with energy, the ground beneath their feet trembling with the force of their exchange.

She's good, Grace thought, her internal voice carrying a note of grudging respect. But not good enough.

She's reading my movements, Cassia thought, her internal voice carrying a note of quiet assessment. She knows what I'm going to do before I do it.

---

Cassia's claws moved with blinding speed, each strike aimed with cold precision. Grace's body moved with fluid grace, each dodge a work of art. The air around them crackled with energy, the ground beneath their feet trembling with the force of their exchange.

Their fists met in the center of the arena, a shockwave of force erupting from the point of impact. A gale of wind exploded outward, carrying debris and dust across the arena floor. The crowd shielded their eyes, their voices lost in the roar.

Grace and Cassia stood frozen, their fists still pressed together. Their eyes locked, a silent conversation passing between them.

Cassia's voice carried a note of quiet surprise. "You..."

Grace's lips moved silently, forming words that only Cassia could hear.

Cassia's expression shifted to one of caught-off-guard shock. Her body tensed, her eyes widening with genuine surprise.

---

The arena fell silent, save for the hum of the holographic banners. Grace and Cassia stood frozen, their fists still pressed together, their gazes locked.

The crowd watched with bated breath, their voices lost in the stillness.
