Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Meeting

Noah lowered her eyes and pulled her sleeve back into place, covering the ugly scars and black crystal clusters piercing through the skin on her wrist.

Her blindness and leg disability were related to the complications of Oripathy.

Although at first, she was extremely resistant to these things growing on her body, now, she has learned to coexist harmoniously with these alien objects.

Although Oripathy is an incurable disease, as long as one has good living habits and regularly uses medication to suppress it, it will not greatly affect daily life.

This was even with her Oripathy symptoms being quite severe.

However, it's quite funny to say, when Margaret was driven out of Kazimierz, Noah was actually not in Kazimierz.

Nominally, she was supposed to be studying in Columbia at the time, but in reality—she went to Rhodes Island, the forefront of Oripathy research.

By the time she returned to Kazimierz, everything had already settled.

In order not to affect her treatment, the family even directly blocked all news about Margaret.

While Noah, undergoing treatment far away on Rhodes Island, was daydreaming in her ward, Margaret had already been forced to leave Kazimierz.

The examination report used to frame her even belonged to Noah.

The absurdity of this matter alone was enough to make one laugh...

However, Noah certainly couldn't laugh.

Fortunately, after returning to Kazimierz, she re-established contact with Margaret.

Although a bit old-fashioned, using letters, the communication time was also quite unstable.

But they did manage to connect, also thanks to Margaret's habit of regularly sending letters to the Kielanlet, always noting where she could receive a reply when sending them.

Clearly, Noah was the only one in the Kielanlet who would establish contact with Margaret.

Noah spent a day having Kuro Jie read Margaret's letters to her, which were mostly about her experiences outside Kazimierz.

Despite several years without a reply, Margaret consistently maintained this habit.

Towards the end, Margaret's letters had almost become like a diary, and sending letters to herself seemed to have become a kind of spiritual pillar for Margaret.

Even without a consistent reply, even when she was far away in an isolation ward on Rhodes Island, almost completely cut off from the outside world.

But luckily, she still read it.

And the next day, she replied—explaining her situation over the years and asking Margaret to go to Rhodes Island.

During her time on Rhodes Island, Noah wasn't entirely idle.

She managed to build good relationships with the people of Rhodes Island in her own way.

After sending the letter to Margaret, she drafted another recommendation letter for Margaret and sent it to Rhodes Island.

In this way, they established a stable connection.

Noah would send letters to Margaret explaining the current situation of the Nearl family and the situation in Kazimierz, and Margaret, after receiving a response, would record everything that happened on her end and send it to her.

And now, she unexpectedly became the spokesperson for the Commercial Federation... was this considered infiltrating the enemy's ranks?

Noah couldn't help but find it a little funny.

Although for the Commercial Federation, they probably chose her because they thought a blind person posed no threat and was easy to control.

But for Noah, this was like someone bringing a pillow when she was sleepy.

It seems being blind isn't entirely without its advantages—

At least it would make some people underestimate her, and she could also conceal what she was doing.

Although these thoughts had a touch of self-mockery, it was indeed true.

Many people tend to let their guard down around a disabled person, as some things are indeed troublesome for disabled people to do, but such thoughts were clearly a good thing for Noah.

Ding-dong—

The elevator door opened.

After becoming the spokesperson for the Commercial Federation, she had an obligation to participate in the Commercial Federation's meetings.

This time, besides her, only Mackey participated in person; all other directors would participate online.

Kuro pushed Noah's wheelchair into the conference room, and Mackey, who had been waiting there, finally spoke.

"Alright, everyone's here, let the meeting begin."

Noah took her designated seat.

Her presence at this meeting was merely a formality; it was essentially a power struggle between the directors, and she only needed to listen.

As expected, not long after she sat down, an old voice echoed through the communication channel—

"This meeting should essentially be considered a welcoming party.

Let us welcome our newly joined spokesperson, Miss Noah Guillerette."

Although there were only Mackey, herself, and Kuro in the conference room, Noah guessed that many people were probably scrutinizing her through the cameras.

She didn't show any signs of nervousness, simply nodding calmly.

"I apologize for not being able to stand and bow.

It is an honor to participate in this meeting."

"Miss Noah has physical inconveniences, which we understand—but considering your achievements at such a young age, few among those present at your age possess your kind of courage," the old voice continued, not at all concealing its admiration for Noah.

"A formidable young talent."

"Miss Noah will also be responsible for organizing the Knight Arena League this time.

All handovers will be handled by Mr. Mackey later, and Miss Noah can raise any ideas on the spot."

At this moment, a slightly younger voice also sounded.

Noah knew that this was the start of assigning tasks.

The Knight Arena was actually nearing the playoffs, and according to the current scores, Maria would need at least an undefeated winning streak to have a chance of entering the playoffs.

The difficulty was simply hellish—but at least there was still a chance.

Noah listened to the meeting content while thinking about Maria's participation.

Mackey would occasionally steal glances at Noah's reaction.

Although the meeting only mentioned Noah at the beginning, it was clear that this meeting itself was also an interview for Noah.

Although Noah had not spoken so far, nor had she said anything shocking.

She was like a delicate doll, with a faint smile, always remaining quiet.

Mackey was not participating in such meetings for the first time.

Generally, young people who had just become spokespersons would mostly appear somewhat timid, but Noah seemed to be an anomaly.

During the meeting, she never showed any fear or worry.

She was too calm—calm as still water.

For some reason, Mackey had a very bad premonition…
