Chapter 12 - End Of Old Times

Keido's knee bounced rapidly, impatiently waiting. The time was now 5:27 pm, and they'd have only a few minutes to check their systems before monsters began to spawn. On his left, his younger sister, Heidi, bit her nail nervously, a bad habit she could never quite quit. On his right sat Kimsung, his eyes quite hollow, all too used to the fated time approaching. Keido looked up at the sky, and the sun was casting the same golden glow that had been there before they entered the museum. If he was being completely honest, he was a bit excited.

Not that he didn't care about his own life, it was just that finally experiencing something he'd only ever read in a novel was really making adrenaline run through his veins. Sure, a terrible event is about to happen, but it would be better for him to stay positive than to think about all the negatives. After all, there are always two or more ways to look at things. The clouds in the sky looked like a quilt, and finally, as the clock struck 5:30 pm, systems for over 8.5 billion people opened worldwide.

Welcome to the Ten Disasters! This is not a joke, nor a movie being filmed. This is real, and you only have five minutes before dungeons begin to open. The rules of the Ten Disasters are simple: Survive as long as you can! We bid all you challengers good luck and hope to see you survive.

Have a good day/night!

Now that he looked at it, the message was the same as the novel. He opened his system, looked through his skill panel, and saw everything the same. Even the items he put in his inventory were registered. After a minute, many items, weapons, and pieces of armor began to glow with hues ranging from white to soft blue in the armory. Kimsung quickly darted through the confused people and broke the glass protection, grabbing a long sword with a soft blue glow to it, and quickly claiming it for his inventory. He then grabbed a few short swords with white glows, an arming sword with a soft blue glow, and tossed them to where Keido and Heidi were. Keido grabbed the arming sword, and Heidi took the short swords.

The alarms in the armory rang out quickly after, and some people were either confused or shocked that someone was trying to rob the museum of antiques. The poor people soon saw a notification on their own systems with a timer counting down from five minutes. The trio quickly hid the weapons in their coats and walked to the entrance of the building. By the time they were close to it, a dungeon had opened near the Met's entrance, a wolf-like monster the size of a bear bursting through the glass doors, biting a security guard's neck and killing him instantly.

Those with good instincts quickly ran away, while others were stuck in shock and quickly killed by other wolves entering after the first. One of the wolves ran to Kimsung's direction, and he killed it with a swift slash to the creature's neck, bleeding out on the floor and dying. Years of living in these situations had already trained his body to be able to fight F-rank monsters like these with ease. They must've been the Low Tier ones if it was so simple.

Two more wolves ran to him, and as he dealt with them, Keido and Heidi joined him, their own weapons drawn. Kimsung received a notification from his system, congratulating him on his early success.

Congratulations, Kimsung!

You are the first human to kill a monster. You will be rewarded four White Mana Crystals for this Achievement!

Four white crystals appeared in his inventory, and he consumed them immediately. Thanks to the building's layout. If he just held out in this large archway, he could defend this pathway for a while longer. He hadn't received any injuries, unlike his opponents, which was good. The wolves watched him warily. Despite being the lowest rank and in the Low Tiers, their instincts told them to be wary of the human in front of them.

"Go check on the other entrance to this place, there's bound to be some heading through there."

Kimsung warned the siblings. He could tell Keido had next to no training in fighting, but since his skill was a mental attack type, he guessed it would help Keido if he encountered the other wolves that entered the museum. A howl rang through the halls, and the three wolves near Kimsung ran to the howl. His eyes narrowed, because whatever let out that howl had to be the leading wolf, which meant it had to be a higher Tier.

While anything in F-rank is by all means killable for humans without ranks, that only depended on the Tier of the monster they encountered. Low Tier monsters were just wild animals, Mid Tiers had some form of intelligence, and High Tiers were the leaders, or rather the strongest one of the group they were in. It wasn't uncommon for the leader of a monster group to be of a lower rank or tier than their champion minion, which made them even more dangerous, since they did not have to take the burden of leading other minions themselves, and could fight freely. Currently, he only has five EXP, since anything at F-rank only gave him 1 EXP per kill or per white mana crystal consumed.

He fought and killed the three injured wolves one by one, and then joined the siblings near the American Wing, where two wolves were already growling at Keido. Keido ran forward, and so did one of the wolves. It ran to him, and Kimsung yelled at him quickly.

"Keido! Use the sword as a spear!"

Keido looked down at the sword, and as the wolf lunged at him, he held the sword up, letting the wolf impale its heart right on the sword.

[You have killed a Mutated Wolf and gained 1 EXP.]

Keido felt a bit relieved but mostly surprised that it worked. He didn't know much about swords, because why would he, but he was surprised to learn that stabbing was a very effective method in some cases.
