Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: I want to break free

After reviewing their skills and brainstorming the next steps, the two were in the dining area with pencils and a large notebook. Keido reread what they had written, just to make sure they hadn't missed anything.

"So, first things first, we find Kimsung and somehow get him on our side. Next, we choose to either stay here or travel to another country before the First Disaster hits, right?"

Heidi nods in agreement. The first part of their plan would be the most difficult, since neither they nor the novel specified anything more about Kimsung's location, other than mentioning a few times he's from the Eunpyeong district, which was also where they were, and that he could also see the stadium from where he lived. It at least cut down the possible locations in the district he could be, but Eunpyeong had a population of nearly five hundred thousand residents, and they had to find a single one of those residents.

Unless they found him by dumb luck, or he just so happened to be their neighbor, it would only add more stress to their already tight schedule before the First Disaster hit.

"It'll be hard to find him, and no thanks to the author, we only know that he can see the stadium from his home. That could be a whole third of Eunpyeong district!"

She says in frustration, scratching her head before sitting down in a chair. Keido remains standing, pondering the chances of meeting Kang Kimsung in the time they had until the First Disaster. In just a couple of weeks, millions of people would die worldwide to monsters and the dungeons they came from. That threat of extinction would only increase every year and could only be stopped if all Ten Disasters were defeated or all of humanity were to die.

Suddenly, a knock on the door is heard. The siblings look at the door, confused. Heidi is the first to speak, a bit nervous about who could be knocking.

"Hey, Keido… were the people in these bodies expecting guests or something? Because it doesn't say anything on this calendar." She asked while scrolling through the phone of the girls who had been reborn into.

Thankfully, her phone had both facial recognition and fingerprint recognition, so Heidi didn't have to struggle with figuring out her password. Keido shook his head and went to the door, checking the peephole first, only to be surprised once again.

'Well, isn't that pretty lucky for us.'

He told himself, because standing in front of him is a tall, muscular man with black short hair, a white tee, and black sweatpants, with some sandals. The same man the two were previously talking about before, the Hero of TTD, Kang Kimsung.

Earlier, Kimsung had been woken up by loud screaming coming next door, so being a good neighbor, he decided to check it out.

Getting out of bed and getting dressed in a lazy outfit, he walked out of his apartment and down to his neighbor's door, a pair of siblings with whom he had a good relationship. He didn't know why he was checking this out, since he didn't have long to prepare for the First Disaster, but he did, out of an old habit.

It was currently his 117th reset, and Kimsung was quite nervous. In his last reset, he had fought Achilles and was unfortunately killed by him. His neighbors were a pair of siblings he usually didn't see often, but it was because he had night shifts at his job. However, Kimsung maintained a good relationship with them, mostly because the siblings were close in age to him, both of them in their early twenties, just like him.

He walked to the next apartment and knocked on the door. It was opened shortly after, and he began to speak.

"Hey, Keido, I know that I woke up early, but it shouldn't be that much of a surprise, you jerk. By the way, I heard some screaming coming from here. Are you and your sister ok here?"

He asked, but didn't expect his neighbor to pull him by the arm into his apartment. Such a thing had never happened before, so he was caught off guard, despite having over a hundred resets' worth of fighting experience. Not that he was at the physical capabilities he was used to. He'd have to fix that as soon as he could control his mana again.

Keido was quiet for a few seconds before coming up with a response.

"Uh, yeah, sure, everything's fine. You want to come in and talk?" Keido asked, making way for Kimsung to enter.

The man before him was quite tall, tall for Korean standards, of course. Keido himself had always been of average height, around 172 cm, but Kimsung must've been 182 cm, which was impressive and imposing at the same time.

The two entered the living room while Heidi was scrolling on her phone, reading up on current news.

"So, Kimsung… Heidi and I may have seen something, and we wanted to tell you, since we trust you, ok?" Keido explained, showing his system.

Systems could be shown to others, and TTD never really did go into detail about why, but thankfully, it required the person displaying to be of sound mind, to prevent any mind manipulators from exposing their enemy's system to others. It was a little useful thing that made the issue nonexistent.

Kimsung looked surprised when he saw Keido's system, out of all things to expect, this one being the least of them.

"How... how do you have this? Why do you even have a system so early?" He questioned, completely baffled. Kimsung had never met someone who had a system as early as he did, and he found it quite strange as to why Keido had one, but he kept the question to himself, wanting to ask for an explanation.

"Kimsung, the thing is Heidi, and I were kind of... put in these bodies? Transmigrated? Whatever it's called, we're not from this world, and we don't really want to die." Keido explained truthfully, deciding that a more direct approach would be better.

Kimsung was silent for a while. Who wouldn't be? Here he was, talking to whatever the hell was currently in his neighbors' bodies. Who wouldn't be both confused and wary? (A/N: Immediate fade ngl)

After he had had the chance to think, he spoke.

"So... who are you? And why're you here? I know you died and all, but I can't possibly trust you two if all you say is you don't want to die."

Keido sighed. Kimsung's response was logical, but he really did want to gain his trust.

"Alright, Kimsung. We're from a world where this whole 'Ten Disasters' thing? It's all a story. A piece of fiction, alright? I hope you don't get into an existential crisis after what I said." Keido explained further.

The siblings looked at Kimsung blink a few times, his expression becoming blank like white paper. Keido swore he could almost see the gears turning in the man's head as he processed what he just said. It was actually quite a bit funny to look at, if not for the growing idea that Kimsung might lash out at them for telling him something like that.
