Chapter 78 - Talk with Mom

Since I was home and could take a breath, I was a lot more rational.

The deer was probably spooked or trying to assert its dominance against my car.

That makes a lot more sense than some kind of cryptid, mythical creature, or monster. Like, seriously, I'm an adult. I need to act like one.

Now that I was calmed down I had dinner with mom and Layla.

At dinner I asked mom, "How did things go with the contract signing?"

"It was good. Everything was quick and easy. They were very accommodating. I got everything I needed today."

"That's good. So what are your plans now?"

"Oh, well, I plan on flying out tomorrow."

"Tomorrow!?"

"Yep. First thing in the morning."

"And you're leaving just like that? What about Granny and Fawfaw? Or Vinnie and Pipie? Who is supposed to take care of them?"

"Well, you will be staying here, right? I will have them flown out once I get a house. Surely, you can look after them for a few weeks, right?"

"I mean, yeah, I can. But I wish you would have asked first."

"You're right. I have been thinking about way too many things lately and it must have slipped my mind."

"So what are the plans once you're there?"

"Once I'm in Regno d'Italia, I will go to my hotel, then I will spend the first few days or week traveling around to find a nice small town to settle down in. When I have done that I will buy a house there and pay for someone to fix it up.

I know that will take a while, so while they are doing that I will travel around Europe. I really want to see the old architecture and historic buildings. I really want to go to Paris in Francia and see the catacombs. It is such an interesting piece of history."

"I agree that it is interesting, but why Regno d'Italia?"

"My favorite movie, "Under the Regno d'Italian Sun" is about living life in a rural town and I love the life depicted in the movie. Now that I have the ability to go and try to live that life out, I will."

"That sounds nice, but have you looked into how it actually is? I mean, a movie is often a romanticized version, loosely based on a perception of reality, that the writer has."

"That's why I'm going. What better way to see the truth than with my own eyes?"

"I guess that's true. But they have different laws there so you have to be careful about that."

"I don't go out of my way to create trouble now, I don't imagine it will be any different there."

"Ok…"

"Oh, yeah! I saw that the two of you got home in a different car. I figured that you would have driven Layla's car, but you didn't. Is that a new one?"

"Yeah, it is. It is the brand new Toyama Cancry. It gets 51 MPG."

"That is crazy, but I would have just given you my car since I'm not going to use it."

"No. That's your car. We will sell it and put the money into your account. You should get the money for your things."

"Well, ok."

Since we were done with dinner we cleaned up and got ready for bed.

The next morning mom hopped into the car she called to take her to the airport. I offered to take her but she declined saying she would rather say her farewells here rather than in a line of traffic.

Once she was gone Layla and I had breakfast.

Then we left for the warehouse.

When we arrived I saw the guys working on pouring the concrete for the foundation of the back warehouses.

They had been working on putting in the rebar the last two days. I didn't notice because Saturday we weren't really here and Sunday I was out driving. They kind of became background noise.

Not really noticeable until you paid attention, but once you did you wondered how you never noticed.

It was a full work crew, guys pouring the concrete, guys putting in rebar for the middle warehouses, they were working their way from the back to the front.

They would probably be done by Thursday, then the buildings could be built. Those would take no time at all, but I was still a little worried as some of the machinery was going to get here soon enough.

I told Layla, "I have gotten enough data for the car so I will be gone, probably the whole day to get it retrofitted with the new parts."

"Ok. But, you don't want me to put the new parts in?"

"No, I want it to be a surprise. Plus it's a machine doing it anyway, and it's super inefficient. Also I don't want to get in your way when you already have a lot to do."

"Ok, I can't really complain if you say it that way."

"I know, that's why I said it that way."

"Sure you did, master manipulator."

I left the warehouse chuckling while thinking about where I was going to drive today.

Because I surely wasn't going to be driving the backroads like I was last night. Even if I know it wasn't something to worry about, I still don't want to go back to where I saw something that creepy.

I was torn on where to drive. I am closer to the mountains, but the mountains have more deer. I could also drive to the beach, but that is quite a drive. I think it is like four hours? So to drive there and back it would take eight hours.

But I don't want to go somewhere so vacation like if Layla isn't going with me. It would make me feel bad.

I also don't actually have to be driving the car to gain experience, so long as it's on and I'm using it. I could just sit at a gas station with the car running and be on my phone all day. That is also an option. A boring option, but an option nonetheless.

I guess I'll just drive to the mountains.
