I looked into the yard waste burning rules.
In most urban and residential areas of Yamato, it is illegal to burn your own yard waste. Under the national Waste Management Law, open burning (including leaves, branches, and grass) is largely prohibited due to air pollution, fire hazards, and nuisance smoke.
However, there are a few exceptions and specific rules to keep in mind.
The Rural Exception: In rural or farming areas, agricultural burnings are sometimes tolerated or permitted if the land is officially registered as a farm.
Designated Incinerators: Some rural residents use specific enclosed, smokeless metal or concrete incinerators. Even with these, it is heavily frowned upon to burn yard waste close to neighbors due to the smoke and smell.
Strict Penalties: Unlawful open burning can result in severe fines (up to 10 million yen) or even imprisonment.
How to Properly Dispose of Yard Waste.
Instead of burning, municipalities in Yamato expect you to bag and dispose of yard waste as regular garbage.
Burnable Trash: In most cities, small amounts of yard waste, grass clippings, and small twigs are classified as "burnable garbage".
Designated Bags: You must pack the yard waste into your city's official, designated transparent or colored trash bags.
Collection Days: You place the bags outside on specified collection days, typically once or twice a week.
Large Branches: Thick branches usually cannot go into regular burnable bags. You must often bundle them with string into manageable sizes and dispose of them as bulky waste or take them directly to a local waste processing center.
Because garbage collection and burning restrictions are strictly handled at the municipal level, rules vary by location.
In my location it was up to me to deliver the burnable yard waste to the proper facility. The problem there was that I didn't have a car here nor did I have a licence to drive.
So I would either have to hire a driver or get a licence.
The option is an international drivers permit, but I have to get that before coming here.
Otherwise I would have to apply for a driver licence here. But that is a complex process that requires lots of documentation.
Personally for me I would rather not have to go through another DMV. So, I'll just hire a transporter to move the yard waste.
I ate the lunch boxes throughout the day, now that it was getting dark I moved back inside.
I flicked on the light switch and the old lights flickered to life. They produced a dim orange light that didn't really provide much light.
It was like a nice restaurant with dim lighting. Just enough to move around without running into anything.
I spent the next few hours cleaning up some more.
Once it was well into the night and I was growing tired, I locked the old inn back up and made my way back to the inn.
Along the way I stopped at a convenience store to get something to eat.
I ate it along the way and when I got back to the inn I took a quick shower then went to sleep.
…
The next day.
I slept in a little. My body was really sore and I had a headache. I really didn't drink enough water yesterday.
Today I had some other plans before going to the old inn.
It was already 9:00 by the time I left. I got a car to the major shopping center and started a shopping spree.
I bought a StarConnect, a router, extension cords, a whole spool of ethernet cable, a few power outlet adapters, a few different outfits, and I ordered a new bed to be delivered.
The bed would be delivered in a few days.
I could have gotten a Yamato futon, but I like my beds to be very soft.
Back at the property I had to pack mule it through the overgrown grass to the old inn. I would have to clear the way so the bed could be delivered.
I spent a few hours working on the entrance train, got lunch, then kept working. By night time I had a rough trail hacked out.
…
The next morning I was up early. I had trouble sleeping, my entire body was sore and aching. I couldn't find a good way to get to sleep.
Today I wanted to take it a bit easier. It was a Friday and I had other things I wanted to do than swing a blade at grass.
At breakfast Kitsumi Kiyo wanted me to sign some paperwork for the inspection and subsequent work.
After that I made my way back to the old inn. Today I was going to get the StarConnect up and running.
Since the inn is in the woods I wouldn't be able to place it on the roof. I made my way over to the still hidden cliff. I pushed my way through the bushes and looked for a good place to set up the satellite.
I found a small out cropping of rocks that barely stuck a little further out of the trees and set up the satellite. I connected the long ethernet cable and extension cables, then ran them back to the inn.
There I plugged them in and started the set up procedure.
Making an account, using the hacking AI back at home to give myself the best internet and security.
Unfortunately, the trees block some of the signal so the internet isn't as good as it could be.
That was a problem that could wait until another day. I still needed to clean the inside some more.
The floor was in better shape than I thought it would be from the dust. It just needed to have a new clear coat and polish.
The new clothes I got had already started to show their worth. The clothes I got were for working outside and just generally for manual labor.
The few clothes I brought from home were not really made for it and some had already gotten holes.
