Chapter 18 - Welcome Home

After a long cleaning journey, Henry was able to turn the camp into a pristine, area fit for living. Though he hadn't intended to live there, if the person who had been living there saw it they would have to be impressed by the energy shift inside their home, going from ruins to, well, cleaner ruins.

'Now the main issue.'

Henry faced the entrance into the camp. He needed to get the person face to face with him. Meet them, make sure they aren't dangerous, and then hopefully find an escape with them.

'Where are they hiding?'

Henry searched around for the dozenth time, he doubted the unknown chosen was hiding far, there was no chance that they would abandon their belongings that easily.

Surviving in the ruins wasn't difficult, but without the right tools, it could be near impossible… Henry kept searching, deciding not to exit too far from the camp fearing pushing his luck, the chance of him finding this place again was very low. Especially if the owner of the campsite, decided to move.

Peeking through cracks in nearby walls, Henry had hoped to catch a glimpse of the stranger, but they were much better than that. Even with the spectral eyes he possessed, Henry had no idea where the person could be. There was barely enough proof they existed.

He pondered if this was one of his old camps, and he was just going insane.

'No, there was definitely someone here, and I'm not that crazy to forget making a big camp like this.'

Besides, Henry wasn't one to train in combat, it wasn't in his nature…

'Shit, how long have I been awake?'

Henry attempted to estimate the time, and came to the conclusion that he would have somewhere between an hour and ten minutes before the fog came in, and decided to give a warning to the hidden chosen.

"The fog should be coming in soon, if you want to sleep cold that's fine by me, but the fires roaring, and foods ready."

No voice replied to him, and he stepped into the camp with his head down.

Around forty minutes must have passed before the fog began seeping between stones, filling the room.

It didn't feel any different, besides being a bit colder. The main issue was visibility, spectral eyes or not it was impossible to see past an inch in front of yourself when surrounded by the fog. Fires mitigated this slightly because their bright color tinted the surrounding fog, which gave a slight idea of the space around if you had gotten used to it. Henry had no clue and decided to stay close to the fire for warmth, picking not to rest on the bed he had made for the stranger, in hopes that they would find their way to it.

The silence, was only interrupted by an uncommonly loud crack from the fire. And so Henry sat, patiently, diligently, and waited.

The minutes turned to hours, and eventually Henry stood up to stretch, when he noticed something, within the fog he saw motion. A dark figure stood not four feet away from him, ominously watching.

'How long were they stood there?'

He looked around yet couldn't see anything besides the fire, and the figure. Reaching into the closely kept bag, he pulled out a rock. Henry didn't intend to hurt the person, but if they did turn violent, he would need to protect himself.

Henry stumbled back until he was pinned against a wall, the fewer angles that the person could reach in the poor visibility area, the better.

Their standoff lasted tens of minutes, just staring at each other, Henry even thought he was looking at the back of the person for a moment, that idea fleeted when he noticed their arms were bent.

'Okay, come on Henry, no fear.'

"Hey!"

The figure stood taller, making their appearance more intimidating. Then they faced directly towards Henry, who could sense that they were looking right, at, him.

"I'm not trying to cause problems, I just want to talk."

Henry wasn't directly lying, though he was prepared to fight the stranger, his main goal was to speak with them first.

The two stood watching each other for multiple more minutes, with nothing but silence between them. 'Dammit, if they leave now, I won't find them again.' Henry thought through each outcome, if he just sat there, he would be stuck for hours, or god knows how long. He had to act fast, before they could.

'Sorry, but this is how it's got to go.'

Henry dashed towards the figure reaching out for their torso, when in place he gripped down with all the might in his arms, crunching down on their abdomen. Quickly, he turned his body, slamming them down next to him. Immediately, Henry restrained their arms, holding his body above theirs, and cupping his arm around their head. The stranger was so shocked by their sudden capture that they failed to make any substantial movements to escape Henry.

"I'm not trying to hurt- you!"

Under labored breaths, Henry slowly pushed his head down, trying to get close enough to see who this mystery chosen was. But they had not given up hope, pushing their body up and squirming around, not giving Henry any leeway.

"Please, I'm just trying to escap-"

Henry felt the chosen hand slam across his face, it stung, painfully, but he couldn't help but think, 'Softer than I imagined.' Struggling against the pressure, he finally was able to inch his head down, slowly getting closer, and closer. Until the stranger's nose was nearly in view. They twisted, and turned, but Henry had the upper hand, if he hadn't acted first this would be a different story.

He was pushed back with a last ditch jump, but thankfully he was able to keep his position, and made his final push, the stranger's heavy breaths pushing against Henry's face. They finally came into view, their face covered in dirt, and grime, as his must be. But something was different, the chosen's familiar blue eyes, and their faded pale blue hair.

"Lumora?"
