Chapter 252 - Chapter 586: Appearing

[Konoha's High-Level Meeting]

Even though Konoha Village ultimately won the heart-stopping Fourth Great Ninja War half a year ago, the follow-up matters concerning compensation with the other three defeated villages fell into a deadlock due to the mysterious disappearance of the key figure, Rengoku, and could not be properly resolved for a long time.

Although those three villages each suffered considerable losses in the war, Konoha itself had not actually gained much in the way of tangible benefits.

Worse still, in order to feign weakness to the enemy so they could set another trap for the Cloud Village in the future, a whole series of matters including compensation were temporarily put on hold.

However, now the Stone Village and the Cloud Village had actually joined forces to impose economic sanctions on Konoha, making the already bleak situation even more severe.

Recently, Konoha Village had convened several high-level meetings in a row, trying to discuss countermeasures, but unfortunately no consensus was reached each time.

One important reason for this situation was that Konoha had still not officially appointed a new Hokage. All governmental affairs could only be handled temporarily by Nara Shikaku on their behalf.

Before this, the whereabouts of Uchiha Rengoku had always been a taboo topic within the village, something no one dared to mention lightly.

As the situation continued to develop, however, the calls to quickly choose a new Hokage grew louder by the day.

Before every high-level meeting, Nara Shikaku would carefully explain to all the attending elders the specific topics to be discussed, so everyone could think things through and prepare in advance.

This time, Shikaku had already informed everyone ahead of time.

The matter to be discussed was related to the Hokage.

So the elders of the major clans all arrived at the venue early.

After all, the position of Hokage in Konoha had been vacant for a long time, and this role was crucial to the stability and development of the entire village.

As the meeting was about to begin, everyone's gaze unconsciously turned toward Nara Shikaku, who was seated on the left side of the main seat.

This position usually meant that he would be the one to preside over the meeting.

They saw Shikaku slowly stand up and first look around to his left and right.

The meeting room, which had been somewhat noisy, instantly fell silent. All the elders quietly fixed their eyes on him.

However, Shikaku did not rush to speak. Instead, he locked his gaze firmly on the doorway, as if waiting for someone to arrive.

The people present exchanged glances, and they more or less had a guess in their hearts. There was a high chance that the latecomer was Tsunade.

After all, at present, the only ones in the village who were capable and likely to take over the position of Hokage were Tsunade and Orochimaru.

It was just that Orochimaru now was fully immersed in all kinds of research, and perhaps was not particularly concerned about the Hokage position.

After a few minutes passed, finally, a figure appeared at the doorway.

It was a woman with bright blonde hair, a beautiful face, and an extremely full chest. Tsunade.

She strode into the meeting room with powerful steps.

"Everyone, I'm a bit late."

"Not at all, not at all. The meeting time hasn't arrived yet. We just came early."

"Princess Tsunade arrived at just the right time."

The elders below echoed a few words, counting it as a greeting.

Tsunade had always been known for speaking frankly.

When she reached her seat, she went straight to the point and said:

"About the fact that our village has left the Hokage position vacant for so long, everyone must have their own thoughts, right?"

At this moment, a slight disturbance rippled through the crowd below, but it quickly settled down again. Tsunade continued:

"Especially when it comes to handling many political affairs, relying on Elder Shikaku alone really makes it hard to make decisions."

At this point, she paused slightly, her gaze sweeping over everyone present.

Then Tsunade raised her voice and emphasized, "As for why the Hokage position ended up vacant, let's put that aside for now."

"The purpose of convening this meeting today is to completely resolve the issue of the Hokage."

As soon as Tsunade finished speaking, a deep and powerful voice suddenly rang out from the crowd below, "In my opinion, whether in terms of strength or seniority, Princess Tsunade, you are the most suitable person to serve as Hokage."

Everyone followed the voice and looked over, only to see that the speaker was sitting on a specially made huge chair.

This person was tall and powerfully built, occupying two seats all by himself.

The one who spoke was Akimichi Torifu, the most senior elder in the village aside from Shikaku.

He had undergone treatment using Orochimaru's cloning technology, successfully cloning a new lung and implanting it into his body.

Now he had fully recovered his health.

Already broad-framed to begin with, he had once again eaten himself back into a plump and robust state.

When he sat there steadily, his whole body was like a towering small mountain, giving off an oppressive presence that could not be ignored.

Seeing this, the people around him also echoed in agreement.

"That's right, that's right. Elder Torifu is correct."

"Tsunade, the position of Sixth Hokage belongs to no one but you!"

As soon as these words were spoken, they immediately stirred up a wave of commotion, and everyone nodded in agreement.

"Exactly. Right now, Konoha urgently needs someone who can make decisive calls, and you are without a doubt the best choice."

Someone else spoke up loudly.

Although Tsunade had no intention of taking the Hokage position in her heart, feeling the sincere gazes and trust of everyone present still made a bright smile bloom on her face.

However, right after that, Tsunade unexpectedly spoke, "Thank you all for your support and recognition, but I am not the most suitable choice for the Hokage position."

The moment she said this, the room fell into stunned silence. Everyone looked at each other, disbelief written all over their faces.

After all, in their minds, aside from Tsunade, they truly could not think of anyone else who could shoulder such a heavy responsibility.

So, almost in unison, everyone's eyes turned toward the direction where the Uchiha clan was seated.

After returning from the last great ninja war, Uchiha Fugaku had become nearly blind in both eyes and had long since voluntarily stepped down from his position as an elder.

Now, sitting there was the newly risen Mangekyo powerhouse of the Uchiha clan. Uchiha Makumi.

Of course, everyone looking at Makumi did not mean that Uchiha Makumi intended to participate in the Hokage election.

What they really wanted was to probe the Uchiha clan's attitude toward this matter.

After all, Uchiha Rengoku was currently only missing, not dead.

Yet, unexpectedly, in the face of all this, Makumi's expression was as calm as the surface of a still lake, without the slightest ripple.

Makumi merely turned her head slightly and gave Tsunade a look, a subtle signal.

Tsunade understood immediately and nodded. She took out a Flying Thunder God kunai that gleamed with a cold light and threw it with force, planting it straight into the Hokage's seat.

Before everyone could even react, in the very next second, a blurred figure appeared like lightning, instantly standing on the previously empty Hokage seat.
