"You got a new job?" Kasteil asked, surprise lifting his voice. We were sprawled on his couch, my head resting on his chest, his arm draped loosely around my shoulders. The steady rise and fall of his breathing beneath me felt like the safest place in the world.
"Yes," I said, a wide smile breaking across my face. "I still can't believe it sometimes, but I got a new job and it feels so much better."
"Isn't it stressful?" he asked, fingers tracing lazy circles on my arm. "Tutoring kids all the time?"
"No, it's not," I said quickly. "I only do it four times a week or so. Oh my—" Excitement bubbled up so fast I couldn't stay still. I sat up, turning to face him fully.
"What?" He propped himself on one elbow, red eyes curious.
"Did I tell you I took the PEC?" I asked, words tumbling out.
"What?"
"I took it—and the APQE," I said, practically bouncing. "I passed, and I got into a university."
A slow, proud smile spread across his face. "This calls for a celebration."
