Somehow, during our walk through the crowd, Jamie and Soren had disappeared.
One moment they were walking right behind us, complaining about the noise and arguing about which stall smelled the best, and the next moment they were just… gone.
Completely gone.
I stopped walking and turned around, standing on my toes slightly to look over the sea of people moving through the festival field.
Nothing.
Just hundreds of people laughing, eating, dancing, and pushing past one another in excitement.
"Well," Phoenix said beside me casually, "either they got kidnapped or they saw food and abandoned us."
I snorted.
"Honestly, both options sound equally possible."
Phoenix shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal.
"They'll find us eventually."
And with that very reassuring statement, we continued walking through the rows of food stalls.
