Chapter 80 - Rule No. 81: Don’t Let the Past Rewrite You

The past didn't disappear.

It just stopped leading.

Aira noticed it in moments that used to trigger her—

a delayed reply,

a quiet day,

a memory she hadn't asked for.

None of it pulled her backward anymore.

They were sitting in the canteen when someone mentioned before—

a casual comment about how things used to be,

how Reyhan used to be.

Aira felt Reyhan tense beside her.

Not much.

Just enough.

She didn't step in.

Didn't defend.

Didn't explain.

She simply stayed where she was.

Later, when they walked out together, Reyhan said quietly,

"I'm not that person anymore."

Aira nodded.

"I know."

He looked at her, searching.

"You don't wonder?" he asked.

"About who I was before all this?"

She thought about it.

"I wonder," she said honestly.

"But I don't let it decide who you are now."

That answer settled something in him.

"I don't want to be rewritten by my mistakes," Reyhan said.

"And I don't want you carrying ghosts that aren't yours."

Aira smiled faintly.

"I'm not rewriting you," she replied.

"I'm reading the current version."

They walked in comfortable silence after that.

At the gate, Aira paused.

"There are days when the past will tap on the door," she said.

"But I won't let it move back in."

Reyhan smiled—soft, grateful.

"And I won't live like I'm trying to outrun it," he replied.

"I'll live like I learned from it."

She reached for his hand again—this time without hesitation.

Because the past didn't get to define them anymore.

They'd already chosen better.

RULE #81: Don't let the past rewrite you.

Because growth isn't erasing who you were—

it's choosing who you are now.
