The group walked toward the Magical Creatures Reserve.
Lanterns floated overhead, lighting the path with a soft glow.
As they reached the grassy hills of the Reserve, the sound of wings beating the air echoed through the area.
Cassie stared upward.
"…Is that it?"
A massive shadow passed over them.
They looked up. A giant winged horse, larger than any normal horse, landed on the field with a heavy thud.
Its coat shone pure white, almost glowing under the moonlight.
Its wings stretched wide, strong, majestic, and powerful.
Its eyes narrowed sharply toward the group.
Penny whispered, "That's definitely an Abraxan…"
Jacqueline stepped back slightly. "It's… a lot bigger than I expected."
Soren stepped forward calmly.
"This is the same Abraxan I saw last week. It was watching me from the hill."
The horse snorted loudly, stomping its hoof.
It was sizing Soren up.
Penny flipped open her notebook. "Okay… according to research… Abraxans respond to confidence. Soren, go ahead."
Soren nodded.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small pouch containing moonberries.
The Abraxan's ears twitched. Its powerful wings folded as it lowered its head slightly, watching him.
Cassie whispered, "It's actually reacting… That's good."
Soren approached slowly, from the front, just like they learned.
When he was close enough, he lifted his hand, palm open, offering the moonberries.
The Abraxan sniffed.
Then, it exhaled gently and pushed its giant head toward Soren's hand, accepting the food.
Penny wrote quickly. "Positive reaction. The trust level is increasing."
Soren gently touched Abraxan's neck. Its muscles relaxed slightly.
Then Soren called softly, "Come here."
From behind, his Fairy fluttered out, glowing faintly blue. It circled Abraxan's head.
The horse watched it curiously… and its eyes softened.
"Good," Jacqueline said with a smile. "It's calming down."
Next, Glimmer the Niffler poked his head out of Soren's cloak, holding a shiny button he stole earlier.
Abraxan's eyes widened in interest at the shiny object. Glimmer wiggled it proudly.
The Abraxan actually let out a soft grunt, almost amused.
Soren gently stroked its mane.
"You're not so scary," he said quietly.
The Abraxan snorted again and bumped its head lightly into Soren's shoulder.
Penny gasped. "That's a sign of acceptance!"
Cassie folded her arms. "Well, of course. Soren is basically a magical creature magnet."
Jacqueline laughed. "It's true."
Penny finished writing the notes. "There. We have perfect data for Hagrid."
Soren stepped back and the Abraxan spread its wings proudly, as if posing for them.
"Let's take this to Hagrid," Soren said. "He'll be happy."
They all nodded and turned to leave. But the Abraxan took a step forward, blocking their way.
Soren raised a brow. "You want something?"
The Abraxan lowered its head. It wanted one more moonberry.
Jacqueline sighed. "Give it to him, Soren."
Soren laughed softly and took out the last moonberry from his pouch.
He held it forward, and the Abraxan gently took it from his hand.
It chewed slowly… then suddenly lifted its massive head.
And picked Soren up by nudging him upward with surprising strength.
"Woah—!" Soren grabbed onto Abraxan's mane as it lifted him onto its back.
Jacqueline gasped. Cassie stepped back. Penny's quill nearly fell from her hand.
"Soren… it's letting you ride it," Penny whispered.
The Abraxan stamped its hooves once.
Then—
WHOOSH
It sprinted forward, its wings spreading wide. In the next second, the beast launched itself into the air, carrying Soren with it.
Soren held tightly around the base of the creature's neck, feeling the rush of wind as the ground fell away beneath him.
Penny shouted from below, "BE CAREFUL!"
Jacqueline shielded her eyes, watching in awe.
Cassie muttered, "He tamed it too fast… only Soren…"
The Abraxan flew in a wide arc across the Reserve. Moonlight brushed over its wings as it glided smoothly through the sky.
For a few minutes, it soared freely, then it gently descended, landing exactly where it had taken off.
Soren slid down carefully from its back and patted its neck.
"You're amazing," he said softly.
The Abraxan snorted proudly, flicked its mane, and stepped back into its resting area.
Penny, Cassie, and Jacqueline hurried to him.
"Soren, that was incredible!"
"You actually flew an Abraxan… on your first day meeting it."
Penny wrote something quickly in her notes.
"This is going to make Hagrid very, very happy."
Soren smiled.
"Then let's go tell him."
---
Soren and the girls walked back toward Hagrid's hut, Penny still scribbling final notes about Abraxan's behaviour.
When they arrived, Hagrid was outside, repairing a fence post.
"Hagrid!" Soren called out.
Hagrid turned, smiling wide. "Ah, there yeh are! Did yeh get the notes?"
Penny held up her parchment. "We got everything, Hagrid. Detailed observations of temperament, reactions, and diet preferences."
Hagrid took the parchment, adjusting his glasses, and scanned the first lines.
But then he looked up at Soren.
"Hold on… this says the Abraxan let yeh touch it?"
Jacqueline stepped forward. "Hagrid, not just touch… it let him ride it."
Hagrid froze. "Ride it…? Yeh mean… it actually carried yeh?"
Soren nodded calmly. "It picked me up and flew a short distance before landing again."
Hagrid stared at him with his mouth open.
"Merlin's beard… Abraxans don't even let Professors ride 'em! Yeh've gone an' tamed the creature on the first day!"
Cassie shrugged. "That's just Soren."
Penny added, "It trusted him immediately."
Hagrid slapped his giant hand against his knee in excitement.
"This is incredible! Dumbledore will be thrilled! Soren, yeh didn't just take notes… yeh made a bond!"
Soren smiled slightly.
Then Hagrid straightened suddenly. "Soren… can yeh do me a favour?"
"Sure," Soren said. "What is it?"
Hagrid pointed toward the sky.
"Bring the Abraxan to the Training Ground tomorrow. I want teh see how it behaves in a familiar environment. And if yeh really bonded with it, yeh should be able teh guide it."
Penny's eyes widened. "You want Soren to bring a giant flying horse into the Training Ground?"
Hagrid nodded proudly. "Aye! There's no rule against it, as long as I'm supervisin'. And this could be important fer our study."
Jacqueline crossed her arms. "Well… if anyone can do it, it's Soren."
Cassie sighed. "I just hope no one gets trampled."
Soren smirked. "It'll be fine. I'll bring the Abraxan."
Hagrid clapped his hands again.
"Excellent! See yeh tomorrow, Soren!"
Soren nodded and turned to his friends.
"Then tomorrow," he said, "we will bring a giant winged horse to the Training Ground."
Penny laughed. "This school is getting stranger every day."
---
The next morning, Soren walked toward the Magical Creatures Reserve with Penny, Cassie, and Jacqueline. The air was cool, and the sky was clear — perfect flying weather.
The Abraxan stood tall in its enclosure, powerful wings folded neatly, its mane shining like polished silver.
Soren stepped forward.
"Ready?" he asked softly.
The Abraxan snorted once, then lowered its head, a clear sign of acceptance.
Jacqueline whispered, "It really listens to you…"
Penny nodded. "It's completely calm around him."
Cassie smirked. "I still can't believe he tamed it in one day."
Soren gently stroked Abraxan's neck, then climbed onto its back in one smooth motion.
"Let's go," he said.
With a strong kick, the Abraxan launched into the air, soaring toward the Training Ground.
---
At the Training Ground
Only Hagrid, Dumbledore, and Soren's friends were present.
The entire field was empty otherwise, Hagrid had arranged it so no students would panic at the sight of a giant flying horse.
Dumbledore stood near the center with his hands behind his back, robes flowing slightly in the breeze.
Hagrid waved both arms excitedly. "There he is! Look at 'em fly!"
The Abraxan circled once over the field, then descended gracefully, landing with a heavy, controlled thud.
Soren slid down from its back.
Hagrid rushed forward. "Beautiful landin', Soren! And look at this magnificent creature… calm as a Kneazle!"
The Abraxan puffed proudly.
Dumbledore approached with a kind smile.
"My boy," he said, "it seems you possess a remarkable gift with magical creatures."
Soren lowered his head respectfully. "Thank you, Professor."
Dumbledore gently touched the Abraxan's muzzle. The creature accepted it without hesitation.
"Extraordinary," Dumbledore murmured.
"Abraxans are known for their selective nature. They rarely allow anyone but trained riders to approach… yet it trusts you fully."
Penny stepped forward with her notes. "Professor, we recorded the Abraxan's reactions, diet preferences, calming responses, and its flight behaviour."
Dumbledore smiled warmly at her. "Excellent work, Miss Haywood."
Dumbledore turned to Soren again.
"You have a rare talent, Soren. Treat it with care. A bond like this is not common, nor is it accidental."
Soren looked up at him. "Professor… will this help with the assignment?"
Dumbledore's eyes twinkled. "Oh, much more than help. This opens new possibilities entirely."
The Abraxan stomped once, as if agreeing.
Dumbledore stepped back. "Hagrid, continue your study. And Soren…" he smiled gently, "…I look forward to seeing where this talent of yours leads. For now 50 points for Slytherin."
With that, Dumbledore left the field.
Hagrid put a hand on Soren's shoulder.
"Yer amazing, Soren. Truly."
Soren glanced at the Abraxan and smiled.
"I think," he said, "this is just the beginning." While he was happy after getting 50 points.
