What the Body Remembers
They walked back to the inn slower than they'd left it, the adrenaline from the spar settling into something quieter, more thoughtful. Claire kept glancing over at Aaron periodically, the way she did when she was turning something over in her mind without quite being ready to say it aloud.
"You're doing the thing," Aaron said eventually.
"What thing?"
"The thing where you think loudly enough that I can practically hear it."
Claire's mouth twitched, not quite a smile. "I'm thinking that if natural exertion produces cleaner results than her trials, then maybe the smarter move is for you to spend tomorrow training instead of sitting through another round of vials."
"She's not going to agree to skip a day of testing."
