Chapter 169: Evolution and Transformation
As the massive purple serpent emerged, a glimmer of hope appeared on the first Medusa's face.
The serpent's mesmerizing purple scales began to glow with a vibrant, seven colored radiance. Yet, under the awestruck gazes of Xiao Yan and the first Medusa, the scales started to crack, releasing fresh blood.
The cracking quickened, and the purple serpent let out a heart wrenching cry of pain.
"Child, endure it! Activate the Seven Colored Holy Transformation Technique!" the first Medusa called out firmly.
The serpent's glowing eyes reflected an almost human like resolve. It coiled tightly into itself, forming a protective circle as fresh cracks split its scales. Streams of blood poured out, creating a small crimson river around it.
The serpent's body trembled violently, wracked with excruciating pain. Xiao Yan's heart clenched as he watched the suffering of Medusa, who now seemed so fragile.
But the purple serpent resolutely shut its eyes and coiled even tighter, ignoring the gushing blood and the cracks widening across its body.
"This... this is brutal! Who thought of such a painful way to evolve?" Xiao Yan couldn't help but curse aloud.
"Hmph. The path of evolution is inherently cruel," the first Medusa replied, her tone steady despite the sorrow in her eyes. "Surviving this ordeal will open a new path for her, one where Dou Zong or even Dou Zun will no longer be her limits.
"Listen, young man. If you can't understand that strength requires enduring such hardship, then your future as the Xiao Clan's heir will be no more than that of an ordinary Dou Sheng."
Her words carried both regret and a stern conviction.
"Even if she successfully evolves today, she still faces the enemies of the Seven Colored Sky Swallowing Python clan. Becoming a true stronghold requires overcoming storms and slaughter."
Xiao Yan fell silent, digesting her words.
As the Xiao Clan heir, he had his own share of pain and sleepless nights. Few knew how hard he trained behind the glory. He understood the cost of power; every step toward absorbing flames meant unimaginable life or death struggles.
But watching Medusa's suffering stirred an unshakable concern within him.
"After all, I just can't stand seeing a beauty suffer," he admitted silently to himself.
"Are the enemies of the Seven Colored Sky Swallowing Python only those fallen clans?" Xiao Yan asked after a moment.
"Perhaps," the first Medusa replied softly.
"My father never encountered a higher level threat. But I can be certain that some of those clans remain. As for their strongest members now... I can't say."
"When I become a Dou Sheng, I'll eliminate them all," Xiao Yan said calmly, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
The first Medusa smiled faintly.
"If that's true, then having this descendant of mine as your woman would indeed be a fair exchange. But be warned those fallen clans aren't as simple as you imagine."
Xiao Yan nodded, choosing to remain silent. Boasting was easy, but true strength lay in action. Even a Dou Zhe could claim they'd one day kill a Dou Di it didn't mean anything without deeds to back it up.
In the distance, the blood flowing from the purple serpent began to shimmer with seven colored light. The multicolored glow grew stronger, until all the blood transformed into radiant seven colored fluid.
Half a day later, the glowing blood encased the serpent completely, hardening into a cocoon like crust of multicolored light. It resembled a magnificent chrysalis suspended in stillness.
"She has completed the first stage of her evolution. When this chrysalis breaks, she will be reborn," the first Medusa said, a wave of relief washing over her face.
"I see," Xiao Yan murmured, watching with a thoughtful expression.
He turned and walked to a quiet corner, sitting cross legged. It was time for him to refine the Myriad Beast Spiritual Flame.
From his palm, he retrieved a radiant seven colored flame in the form of a small serpent. The flame's beauty was breathtaking, but the searing heat it emitted was deadly.
To Xiao Yan, however, it was manageable. Having refined the Yin Yang Sacred Flame, he now found the Myriad Beast Spiritual Flame less intimidating. Ranking 22nd on the Flame Ranking, it paled in comparison to the terrifying power of the Yin Yang Sacred Flame, cultivated by the Evil Saint through countless trials.
Still, Xiao Yan didn't take chances. Retrieving a Green Blood Gold Pill, a top tier medicinal elixir, he prepared for the flame refinement.
The first Medusa watched him, her face a mix of surprise and envy. Xiao Yan treated a pill that would be considered a sacred treasure by the snake people as though it were an ordinary tool.
This level of extravagance reminded her just how fortunate Xiao Yan's clan was.
As she mused, Xiao Yan began refining the flame. The Myriad Beast Spiritual Flame, sensing its fate, struggled violently. The little seven colored serpent thrashed, trying to escape his grasp.
But the first Medusa acted quickly, sending a wave of seven colored light into the serpent. Its struggles weakened.
"Be good and become my second flame," Xiao Yan murmured, his eyes burning with determination.
With that, he swallowed the fiery serpent.
The flame's entry into his body brought immediate agony, his face twisting in pain. Yet the Myriad Beast Spiritual Flame was no match for the Yin Yang Sacred Flame. Supported by the medicinal elixir and his resilient body, Xiao Yan endured the torment, progressing steadily in refining the flame.
The first Medusa observed silently, her expression a mixture of astonishment and approval.
Her gaze shifted to the seven colored chrysalis. A faint pulse of life began to emanate from within.
"Children," she murmured, her voice soft but filled with emotion, "I hope you will face the calamities of this world together."
In the radiant, tranquil space, the first Medusa stood alone, watching over the glowing chrysalis and the boy surrounded by azure flames.
Both were undergoing transformations one of rebirth, the other of power.
