Gabriel and Lilith stood frozen, the images swirling around them. They saw flashes of Earth, of their past lives, of the moments that had led them to this point. They saw the dungeon, the undercover world, the forces that had shaped their destinies.
And they saw a figure—a woman with silver hair and crimson eyes, her face hidden in shadow.
"Lilith," Gabriel breathed.
The figure nodded. "She is the key. And you, Gabriel, are the lock. Together, you will unlock the gate."
"What gate?" Lilith demanded.
The figure's form began to dissolve, its voice fading. "The gate to the truth. The gate to your past. The gate to your future."
The chamber trembled. The core pulsed one final time, then shattered into a thousand pieces.
The dungeon crumbled.
Gabriel grabbed Lilith's hand, and they fled—up through the collapsing tunnels, past the crumbling walls, toward the light of the surface.
