Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: A Storm Is Brewing

Loki was still staring blankly at the large hole in the wall of the cell, lost in thought.

"Hey~ Destiny! My friend, you're here too!"

Thor arrived on the bridge. Seeing Corin in casual clothes, he strode over in big steps and greeted him warmly.

Corin looked over at the sound. When he saw Thor wearing that familiar divine armor, Mjolnir hanging from his hand, his eyes lit up.

'Finally, you're here.'

"Hi~ Thor, long time no see. Is the Bifrost fixed?"

A trace of surprise flashed through Thor's eyes, 'How does Destiny know that I destroyed the Bifrost?'

Not important. Seeing an old friend here was still a happy thing.

"The Bifrost hasn't been repaired. Father used other means to send me here."

Hearing that, Corin's interest immediately dropped by more than half, 'When exactly is that Bifrost going to be fixed?'

When would he be able to go to Asgard, that place paved with gold everywhere?

Seeing Corin spacing out a little, Thor looked him up and down with some confusion.

"Where's the gift I gave you? Why aren't you wearing it?"

In Thor's view, the medal he had lost to Destiny carried supreme honor. Even though its owner had become Corin, it should still be treated with the utmost respect.

Wearing it at all times was the greatest respect for it.

"Uh… you mean the medal?"

"Oh, I put it somewhere very safe…"

"Don't worry."

Corin thought to himself that thing had been sold for cash a long time ago. There was no way Thor could find out.

He casually made up an excuse to brush it off.

Hearing Corin say that, Thor assumed that Midgard people might treat honor differently from them, and he nodded slightly.

"So… when do you think I can take Loki away?"

Thor only had one acquaintance here, Corin, so it was only natural that he chatted with him.

Looking at Loki on the monitor, lounging around as if at ease, Corin thought about what was about to happen.

"Maybe… it'll still take a while."

Hearing Corin's words, Thor deeply agreed. After all, being entangled in such complicated matters, wanting to take Loki away immediately was obviously unrealistic.

He had already fought with that metal guy, the one called Tony, and he really didn't want to end up fighting Corin as well because of opposing positions.

If Corin knew what Thor was thinking, he'd probably say one thing, 'Big brother, you're overthinking it.'

Seeing Thor and Corin chatting so familiarly, everyone else on the bridge was surprised.

Banner slightly revised his view of Corin's bounty hunter identity.

"This bounty hunter's pretty capable. He can even get in touch with people from the divine realm."

At this moment, from a scientific perspective of accepting reality, Banner had to admit that the divine realm truly existed.

As voices came through the loudspeaker, Corin, Rogers, Banner, Natasha, and Thor stood in the command room watching the footage on the monitors. They were all curious what kind of sparks would fly between Director Fury and Loki.

Tony was absent, no one knew what he was up to.

"Your current situation is…"

With the sound of footsteps approaching, Nick Fury walked to the control console not far from the cell and operated it.

"If you try to escape, even if you just lightly scratch the glass…"

At this moment, the projection hatch beneath the cell opened. The fierce wind from the Helicarrier's high-speed flight, carrying a sharp howl, rang in Loki's ears.

Obviously, the can-shaped cell would be dropped from here by some mechanism if triggered.

"You'll take this big can and fall from nine thousand meters in the air… got it?"

Nick Fury calmly explained the consequences.

The meaning was obvious. Loki was an ant, and the control panel at Fury's hand was the boot that could crush the ant at any time.

"Heh! Heh!"

Loki dismissed the threat from this mortal in front of him and let out a hearty laugh.

Of course, he still had things to do here, so… he couldn't fall down yet.

Loki stood firmly in place, his feet as if glued to the floor.

But he raised one hand, pointing at the big hole in the wall that was whistling with air leaking through it, his gaze innocent.

With the strong wind Fury had just let in by opening the hatch, the tape covering the hole was easily blown away.

It was now limply draped over a nearby metal railing, flapping wildly in the wind.

"It's still going to keep shedding bits. I wonder if that counts as scratching the glass?"

Fury, who had just shown off his operation in front of Loki, looked toward the hole and the corner of his mouth twitched.

Indeed, the cracks showed signs of continuing to spread.

If fragments falling off triggered the mechanism and sent Loki down at this moment, then what had all their effort been for?

"Damn it!"

Thinking of Coulson's suggestion to have Corin test the cell, Fury only wanted to say, 'That was completely unnecessary…'

He forgot that he himself had approved it.

Maintaining a cold expression on his face, Fury quietly reached one hand to the console and, without drawing attention, shut off the projection switch.

Smack!

In the command room, Agent Coulson, watching the monitor, couldn't hold back and slapped his forehead with one hand, producing a crisp sound.

The sound wasn't loud, but in the command room where everyone was focused on the screen, it was like a clap of thunder.

This immediately drew the curious gazes of the Avengers.

Everyone instinctively looked at Coulson, faces full of confusion.

But Agent Hill looked toward Corin instead, her shoulders shaking as she bit down hard to keep from laughing.

She knew she should be serious in this situation, but she really couldn't help it.

As for that, Corin shrugged indifferently.

"Has nothing to do with me. Your director asked me to do it."

Hearing the hatch close and the howling wind disappear from his ears, Loki felt slightly reassured and relaxed his body.

Pacing in small steps inside the cell, he spoke up to stir things up.

"This thing's pretty well designed. It's not meant for me, right?"

Nick Fury regained control of the situation and didn't shy away from Banner, who was watching the monitor, as he answered confidently.

"There was something much fiercer and much stronger supposed to be locked up."

Seeing the other party take the bait, Loki deliberately looked toward the camera, his voice full of temptation.

"I've heard about it. A raging beast, pretending to be an ordinary man. How desperate must you be to need to find such a monster to protect you."

The voice came through the loudspeaker into the command room. Hearing it, Natasha's first reaction was to look at Banner.

On the surface, Banner remained calm, but inside his heart turned ice-cold.

"Damn it, I knew it."

Leaving aside the fact that Nick Fury, the so-called interrogation master, gained no advantage at all against Loki.

Loki not only exposed the truth that S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn't trying to create clean energy but wanted to control the power of the Tesseract, he also successfully planted a seed of resistance in Banner's heart.

To hide this feeling, Banner took the initiative to speak.

"He's really long-winded."

Fury and Loki's conversation stirred suspicion among the Avengers. At the same time, a question formed in their minds.

"What does Fury really want the Tesseract for?"

The most forward-thinking was Tony. While pretending to work, he secretly ordered JARVIS to hack into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s systems.

And Captain America, Colonel Rogers, was not to be outdone. To uncover the truth, he secretly infiltrated the 10-C secret warehouse.

There, he successfully discovered some special weapons.

This confirmed for the Captain that S.H.I.E.L.D. indeed had some unspeakable ambitions.

Tony also successfully received feedback from JARVIS. S.H.I.E.L.D. really did have plans to use the Tesseract to develop super weapons.

Just as the Avengers were surrounding Nick Fury and arguing endlessly, the Mind Stone scepter behind them began to emit a strange glow.

After taking a nap and returning to everyone's side, Corin's spider sense suddenly sent out a warning.

He closed his eyes and expanded his perception to the maximum, discovering that a team of unidentified personnel had already infiltrated the Helicarrier.

What's more, an arrow had successfully embedded itself near Engine No. 3, the red light on its tip flashing more and more frequently.

Corin knew this was Hawkeye Clint's explosive arrow. He had seen it before.

Just a moment before the explosion, Corin shouted a warning.

"Danger!"

As he spoke, he instantly activated magnetic control, pulling all the personnel near the blast zone to a safe position.

Fortunately, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s combat suits had plenty of metal on them. Otherwise, Corin could only have watched helplessly as they were caught in the explosion.

Boom!
