"Oh my God Ashtine!! You're gonna be 18 today. Officially an adult!!", I thought to myself. Never in my life I had been so nervous about my birthday. But knowing all the hype that the age 18 holds, I knew that a new journey is waiting for me ahead.
I have a few people in my life who are the most important to me. My mom Grace, my best friend Lilly and my boyfriend Paul. These three people are my whole world. Because of them life is a little happy, a little adventurous and perfectly complete.
I'm in my senior year of high school and soon will be enrolling in a university . I am ambitious and I have things pre planned for myself. I love literature and will be studying the same at Princeton university. I've studied hard for it and I know I'll be getting in in that university.
…..12:00 AM...
Just when I almost dozed off my phone bell rang and it was Lilly calling. She is my best friend since when we were 4 year olds and she has never missed any of my 12 AM birthday wishes.
"2 mins to go Ash!!", she exclaimed excitedly.
" You know very well that Paul's gonna be mad at you again for calling me before him.", I said.
" It's not my fault that your boyfriend is so slow!", she said arrogantly. " If he wants to wish you first, he should call a bit early.", she extended her reason.
" Well well stop insulting my bf now and just wish me already! Its almost 12..", I reminded her why she called.
" Oh yes!", Lilly chuckled.
" Happy 18th birthday to my sister from another mister!! I lawfully declare you an adult now and get ready to lose your virginity now!!", Lilly wished me in a naughty tone.
"Thankyou Lilly!!", I replied her in a nervous tone after listening those sharp words from her.
I was already nervous since morning with the thought of entering into adulthood and now even Lilly was saying things which I was nervous about.
What if Paul asks to take our relationship to a next level?
The thought of this brought shivers to me!!
"Now if you would please hang up the phone coz my boyfriend's calling me since last 5 mins!!", I said to Lilly.
"Oh yes why not! Let your slow bf wish you.", Lilly replied.
It was not that Lilly hated Paul but somehow they never got along. She has always told me that he's not suitable for me because he lacks passion. Our relationship lacks passion. I deserve someone who would burn down an entire town for me.
My phone rang and it was Paul.
"Happy birthday princess!! You mean the world to me and I love you to the moon and back..", Paul wished me in a soft tone.
"Thank you Paul. Love you too!", I replied softly.
"Tomorrow after you return from school be ready for a surprise. I'll pick you up at 7 and it would be best if you wear something red.", Paul added.
"Sure!", I replied.
He hung up the call and I put my phone aside and went into a deep thought with a sigh.
Why do I feel incomplete even when I have everything around me. A loving boyfriend who has already planned something for my birthday party. But still it felt like I wanted more. There was a yearning and it felt strange. What could that be?
Am I needing or wanting someone else!!
