During his fight with the two immortals, Ray had stored some pure magic without anyone noticing; breaking the cage from inside was an easy task from the beginning, yet he decided to follow the flow of the events. The parasite was not the type to jump in and just kill everyone; he had to take his time and make a show out of it.
Aria's domain went beyond his beliefs of the things magic could do; such powers were godlike. An old jealousy took over his emotions. Her attacks were not optimized, and she obviously didn't train in her domain, and why would she? On Earth and Mars, Ray doubted anyone could come out of her domain alive.
