Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 22 — The House of Echoes

The abandoned building stood on the outskirts of the city; 🏬

swallowed by overgrown weeds and silent dark windows.

It looked dead.

Forgotten.

But Feriha's heart told her otherwise.

Ravihan parked the car a safe distance away and scanned the area through the windshield. 🚘

"No guards," he muttered.

"No lights. No cameras. Too quiet." 🔇

"Selene wants me to walk in without fear," Feriha said.

"She's making the place look harmless."

Ravihan shot her a look.

"Harmless doesn't exist where Selene is."

They stepped out of the car together.

Cold wind brushed past them, rustling through the long grass. 🌬

Feriha approached the building slowly.

The closer she got, the stronger the pressure in her chest became;

like memories trapped beneath ice were beginning to crack.

Ravihan kept pace beside her.

"You good?" he asked.

"No," she whispered honestly.

"But I'm going anyway."

They reached the door. 🚪

The symbol from the video was carved into the wood;

the same one from her memory.

A shiver ran down her spine.

"This is it," she murmured.

Ravihan reached for his flashlight.

"Stay behind me." 🔦

"No," Feriha said, surprising even herself.

"You follow me this time. She wants me in front."

He hesitated;

but nodded.

Feriha pushed the door open.

The air inside was heavy, old, and suffocating.

Their footsteps echoed in the hollow darkness. 👣

Feriha traced her fingers along the wall as they walked;

and a sudden flash hit her.

Small footsteps.

Child laughter.

A girl with a blue ribbon pulling her hand.

"Come on, Feri! She's coming!" 💠

The memory faded as quickly as it appeared.

But Feriha stumbled, hand flying to her head.

"Easy," Ravihan said, gripping her elbow.

They walked deeper.

Down the dark corridor.

Past rusted doors.

The building felt like it was breathing;

alive in the worst possible way.

Then_

A sound. 🔉

Soft.

Barely audible.

A whimper.

Feriha froze.

"That's her," she whispered.

Ravihan tightened his grip on his flashlight like a weapon.

They followed the sound to the end of the hallway.

A single room.

The door slightly open.

A faint blue ribbon lay outside, half-crushed on the floor.

Feriha's heart nearly stopped. 🖤

She pushed the door;

But the room was empty.

No girl.

No movement.

Just a mattress, a flickering light, and…

A note. 📜

Pinned to the wall with a long silver pin.

Feriha walked toward it slowly, dread crawling up her spine.

Ravihan read the short message aloud.

"If you want to save her, Feriha…

remember what you promised me."

Feriha stared at the message.

A promise.

A promise she didn't remember.

A promise Selene was now using against her.

Ravihan turned to her.

"What promise?" 🤔

Feriha swallowed hard.

"I don't know," she whispered.

"But Selene does."

And whatever it was;

it was about to tear her apart. 😪
